Friday Focus: Career Pathways

On Monday, October 1, hundreds of educators from across the country will be coming to our District for the 2018 Redefining Ready! National Summit to learn about the work that our District 214 schools are doing to ensure that our students are college, career and life ready.  Summit attendees will be meeting with our staff as well as visiting each of our schools to see this work in action.

Participants will primarily be focused on learning about our career pathways program and we will be sharing resources, such as our Career Pathways Booklet with them. As you know, this booklet serves as a comprehensive booklet for staff, parents and students as well as as a tool for post-secondary planning. I encourage you to review the latest version and discuss it with your students.

During the evening of October 1, we will host a College and Career Ready! Night at the Forest View Educational Center, which is open to all current and soon-to-be District 214 students and their parents. It is a great opportunity for students to learn about the pathways and all that we offer to help them discover their futures while in District 214. Click Here for Info

The Daily Herald, September 27, 2018
For the first time in coach Matt Priban's seven-year career as Buffalo Grove's girls volleyball coach, the Bison are in a position they've never been. And they couldn't be enjoying it more. The Bison moved into a first-place tie with Hersey, the 15-time defending champion of the Mid-Suburban East. Read Story

Girls volleyball: Win over Stevenson gives Buffalo Grove momentum
The Daily Herald, September 24, 2018
Leading up to a big Mid-Suburban East week with Rolling Meadows Tuesday and league leader Hersey on Thursday, Buffalo Grove's girls volleyball team got the momentum boost it was looking for on Monday night. Going up against a 12-5 Stevenson team which they had lost to in three sets at the Niles West tourney earlier this season, the host Bison came away with the three-set win this time 22-25, 25-19, 25-21 in a nonconference match. Girls Teams Get Going On New Hockey Season
Journal & Topics, September 27, 2018
Now that the 90-degree temperatures outside have subsided (we hope), sports fans can finally come to the realization that it is time for the 2018-2019 high school hockey season. While there are the usual suspects of quality area boys teams, the girls high school hockey season is growing by one. In addition to Maine Township girls hockey and state championship runner-up Glenbrook, there is now the District 211/District 214 Rebels program for girls. Read Story

Buffalo Grove boys soccer shifts its focus to offense
Chicago Tribune, September 21, 2018
To win a soccer game, a team must outscore its opponent. That’s nothing new. But for the Buffalo Grove boys soccer team, that seemingly logical and desirable approach represents a change in philosophy from a year ago. Gone are the days of trying to win 1-0 games. Thus far, the decision made by new coach Darren Llewellyn is paying dividends, with the Bison routinely playing with a lead while also feeling confident that a rare deficit can swiftly be wiped out. Friday Focus: Link Together reinforces positive messages for our students

YOU are your teen’s #1 influence. The PARENT tab on the Link Together website, www.linktogethercoalition.org, shares information from the Talk They Hear You national campaign provided by SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration).

The Link Together Coalition provides prevention efforts to all D214 high schools and feeder middle schools within Wheeling Township. Social Norms is an evidence-based campaign aiming to change student behavior by correcting misperceptions of peer norms. It is typical for most high school students to think more of their peers are using alcohol than actually are. Data from our schools supports this. If a student believes this misperception, they are more likely to try drugs or alcohol.

Link Together Coalition provides students with education and programming that helps create a healthier culture at our school. This year’s poster series was developed by staff from Link Together and approved by the State of Illinois Department of Human Services. They surveyed a large quantity of students from our schools to choose the most appealing and effective series.

Thank you for empowering our youth to be drug and alcohol free.

Start Your Engines!!!!!!!!! Drive 4 UR School Event 9/25 3:45-8:00 pm
Many of you will recall a fun event we have hosted at BG twice in the past years.... Drive 4 UR School! This is the event where Arlington Heights Ford brings over 20-25 brand new Ford cars (essentially one of every kind) to the school for free test drives.  For every person (one per household) who takes or participates in a test-drive in a Ford vehicle during our event at BGHS, Ford Motor Company will donate $20 to Buffalo Grove High School. In total, as much as $6,000 could be raised! There is no charge to take a test drive. There is no hassle, just tons of fun. A test drive takes about 10 minutes.

On behalf of the Buffalo Grove HS Athletic Department and Bison Boosters, we HIGHLY encourage you to take a small amount of your time to help us raise easy funds for the athletes of BGHS. Please mark your calendars and invite family, friends and neighbors to join in supporting Buffalo Grove High School athletics.
