Friday Focus:
Golfer Courtney Beerheide to Compete at USGA Championship
Buffalo Grove High School freshman Courtney Beerheide is playing in the United States Golf Association (USGA) Women's Amateur Four-Ball Championship this weekend in DuPont, WA at The Home Course. She and her teammate, McKenna Nelson from Beaver Dam, WI are two of the youngest players in the field of 64 teams (128 players) playing in the event. The field this week ranges in age from 13 to 64 years old with competitors from all over the world including 28 states and 10 countries. They qualified last September at Mauh-Nah-Tee-See Golf Club in Rockford shooting a 65 or 6 under par on the par 71 course. Any USGA championship is the highest level of golf that a player can participate in during their career. Courtney and McKenna will play on Saturday and Sunday and then the field will be cut to 32 teams starting Monday until a champion is awarded on Wednesday. 8th Annual African American Teen Summit Highlights
The 8th Annual D214 African American Teen Summit was held at Forest View Educational Center on April 21, 2023. The theme was “Phenomenally Black” with a focus on self love, self esteem and self care. Around 100 students from across the District came together for a day of empowerment consisting of team building activities and breakout sessions led by keynote speaker VaLerie Humphrey and members of District 214's African American Leadership Team.
