Staff Spotlight

What is your name? Brandon A. Mundschenk

What department do you teach in/ How long have you been teaching at BG? I teach in the CTE Department (Career and Technical Education) and this is my 1st year teaching here at BG.

Where did you go to high school? I attended Lake Zurich High School.

What part of teaching do you find the most rewarding? The part of teaching that I find most rewarding is when I help a student find an area of passion in their life. Whether they decide to pursue this as a major, head straight into it as a career, or simply is something that they can use to make a difference, I am all for that.

What new thing have you learned this year as a teacher? Being that this is my second first-year of teaching, it may be shorter to list what I haven’t (yet) learned. However, the most impactful thing I have learned this year as a teacher is to be transparent. It is okay that I don’t know everything and students buy-in even more when they know I’m on the journey with them as opposed to simply teaching them everything that I already know.

What are you currently reading, and/ or do you have a favorite author or podcast? Non-Fiction - I am currently reading Leadershift by John Maxwell.

Fiction - I am currently reading Catch-22 (my all time favorite book).

Podcast - Stuff You Should Know

What activities or clubs do you coach/sponsor? I am currently in the process of creating a new group here at BG: Bison L.E.A.D. In this group, we aim to develop leaders of all types and empower them to make change and impact others. I am also involved with theater at BG, helping out with all of the backstage elements: Lighting, Audio, Scenic Construction, and Painting.

What is something unique about you? I learned how to juggle while riding the unicycle for a show in college and continue to hone that skill in case the circus life comes knocking. I’m out 1-2 hours a week on the uni and have completed several (small) grocery trips on one wheel.
