Chicago Tribune, April 21, 2017
Rhyan Shanker, an alumna of Buffalo Grove High School, realizes the challenges with developing new compounds to try and make a longer lasting battery. Explaining the concept to people not versed in science can be even more challenging. "It's not like every day we're just coming up with a new compound," the 18-year-old Shanker said. "Sometimes, it can take months, or even years, to discover something new." After graduating from Buffalo Grove High School in 2016, Shanker, now a chemistry major at Lake Forest College, recently was accepted into the school's Richter Scholar Summer Research Program.
