Principal Wardle's Weekly Blog

Friday Focus - #OneBG
At our back to school assembly this Wednesday morning, I talked to the student body about one of my favorite places in the world - the Rocky Mountain National Park.  The focus was on the Aspen tree - which is the largest single organism in the park because each tree is connected by one root system, making whole sections of the park a single tree with thousands of individual sprouts.  In times of drought and times of difficulty, such as a forest fire, the first vegetation to recover is the Aspen Tree, because the support system sends needed nourishment to the part that is hurting or in distress.   This is how I see Buffalo Grove High School.  We are one body, one large connected group that supports, celebrates, encourages, and stands by each other. #OneBG, our school pride hashtag, means exactly that, that we stand together.

My hope is that each of your students has an incredible experience here at BG this year, from the administration down to each teacher, coach, sponsor, and peer.  Is that difficult, yes, but it is the goal of our admin that each student and faculty member is cared for individually.

Staff Spotlight

1. What is your name? Lana O’Brien

2. What area of the building do you work in?  I am the Administrative Assistant to the Principal, Jeff Wardle, and I work in the Main Office.  If you call the main office phone I am usually the person answering the phone.

3. How long have you been working at BG?  About two months--I started July 1.  Before working at BG, I worked in the district office at Arlington Heights School District 25.

4. Where did you go to high school?  I went to Glenbrook North High School in Northbrook.

5. What part of your job to you find the most rewarding?  I enjoy helping people, especially working with all of the students.

6. What is something unique about you?
I am a first generation American--my dad was born in the Ukraine, and my mom was born in Italy.  Also, I am addicted to Arnold Palmers! (iced tea & lemonade), but I’m very picky about it and have to make a certain way (⅓ lemonade and ⅔ iced tea).

7. What activities or clubs do you coach/sponsor?  What are your outside interests?  I don’t coach now, but I used to coach both boys and girls volleyball when my kids were in middle school.  I love the outdoors--I like to camp, hike, and kayak.  I also LOVE sports--I’m a die-hard Cub’s fan, and I follow college football, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes, where I went to college!
