Principal's Weekly Blog 04/08/2106

Friday Focus  -   Reflections on the past week - Leaving a Legacy
Screen Shot 2016-04-07 at 3.27.10 PM.pngIn the past 7 days, I have attended two funerals of loved ones of the Buffalo Grove Family.  Each one fulfilling the roles of a mom or a dad, brother or sister, husband or wife. At each event, the memories that are shared are of the times that were spent together.  Holidays, times around the dinner table, sitting on laps and reading, funny things that were said, vacations, personality quirks that made life fun and unique.
This past week I have been forced to ponder, “How will I be remembered?”,  “What will be said when my time comes?”  It’s a great and sobering dose of reality and reorientation of priorities.  As a principal, I feel reinvigorated to pursue and lead a high school that has a place for all of our students, that truly provides a Hope and Future to all students.  One that gives our students the life skills of analysis, persuasion, deductive reasoning, inquiry, grows emotional intelligence, and develops metacognition.  That grows each student’s belief in themselves and a the difference they can make in this world.  I appreciate going on this journey with each staff member, student, and the families that they represent.  Go Bison!

Buffalo Grove water polo program turning around with new pool
Chicago Tribune, March 31, 2016
Buffalo Grove's pool still has that new-pool feeling.  The school's boys water polo team played without a home venue during the 2014 season, finishing with a 12-19 record. Buffalo Grove's inaugural season in the new pool didn't go well. The Bison compiled a record of 8-22 with a 3-7 mark in the Mid-Suburban East last season.  The Bison are just now recovering from low roster numbers posted two years ago, which affected last season's team.  Read Story

More money for career programs in Northwest suburban high schools

The Daily Herald, April 2, 2016
When Sarah Aljanabi went to her counselor at Buffalo Grove High School during her sophomore year to talk about career options, she thought pharmacy sounded interesting. But she didn't really know what it entailed. "I knew I wanted to be in health care, but I wasn't sure which career would be best for me," Aljanabi said. Read Story
