Friday Focus - Spending quality family time together over the summer.
Summer is a time personally for me to reconnect with my kids and my wife Laura. I came across a few tips on encouraging communication in the home, and want to share them here. This will be my focus this summer!
- Eat together - one of the best ways to hear about what is going on and have a time to interact daily.
- Ask Questions - and be relentless when you get the “nothing” answer. Once they start talking, you may be late to your next appointment!
- Say Yes whenever possible - give them freedom and choice when you can.
- Listen - it’s simple, but when they feel like talking and sharing - drop everything and listen. Cherish those times.
- Just be together - do things as a family, go out for ice cream, watch a show together. Let them know, “You are worth my time”
Celebrating Our Success!

Staff Spotlight
1. What is your name? April Wegrzyn
2. What department have you/ do you work in and what do you do? I began my career at BG working in the attendance office. Since then I have worked as the PE Division Assistant and the Athletic Assistant. I currently work in the main office as the Bookkeeper and Administrative Assistant for Student Activities.
3. How long have you been working at BG? I am completing my 21st year at BG.
4. Where did you go to high school? I attended Luther North High School in Chicago.
5. What part of working at BG do you find the most rewarding? I always describe my job as the "fun" job. I get to work planning student activities such as Homecoming and Prom - the "fun" part of school. I am able to interact with students in all areas as well as multiple staff members. I see many projects from the planning stages to the final outcome. It's great to be involved.
6. What is something unique about you? Not super unique - my birthday is in April and I'm named April. My mom says it had nothing to do with my birth month - she just liked the name.
7. What activities or clubs do you coach/ sponsor? All - it's part of my job! I have a special interest in cheerleading since I've been actively involved in the cheer competition season and have attended their state competition with them for four years, however, I enjoy supporting all activities and athletics at BG. My position enables me to work with all sports teams and clubs whether it is arranging transportation for them, ordering their apparel, assisting with fundraising and being an assistant for all their needs. I love the atmosphere at football games combining football with our blue and orange spirit groups and the marching band. I also enjoy the Fine Arts presentations and Orchesis shows.
