Decision 2020: The Candidate Endorsement Process
Next Tuesday, February 11, High School District 214 Community Education will host journalists and other experts for a free panel-style conversation on the issues and people at the heart of the 2020 race for the U.S. Presidency. This event is the latest in a lecture series, and part of a continued effort to engage our parents, students and community on topics of importance at the local, state and national levels. The nonpartisan conversation is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the theater of Forest View Educational Center, 2121 S. Goebbert Rd. in Arlington Heights.
All are welcome to be a part of this great event. Audience members will be able to submit written questions to the panelists. The event is free, but registration is required. Click HERE to sign up.

- Congratulations BG Coed Cheerleaders, 2020 IHSA Sectional Champions and competing at State this weekend for the 10th straight year!
- Congratulations to our state qualifying Chess Team headed to state February 13-14!
- Congratulations to the Bowling team on winning the MSL Championship! Rebecca Howard won the individual championship with an overall average of 209.103, and BG took the team title with a total score of 185 points, besting second place Hersey (151).
- Congratulations to all our Regional DECA medal winners. A BIG CONGRATULATIONS to the 37 students that placed Top 3 overall and advanced to State competition!
- Congratulations to the Freshman Wrestling team on placing 3rd in conference.
- Congratulations to Gymnasts Dagmara Sobolak and Leah Oyen! They both qualified to compete at the IHSA Gymnastics Sectional Meet on Vault, Bars, Floor and All-Around!
- Congratulations to Girls Basketball the MSL East Co-Champs at 9-1!

Huge NJROTC drill meet held at Wheeling High School

Cadets from Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps units and military schools competed in one of the largest drill meets in Illinois, which took place at Wheeling High School Saturday. The Wheeling NJROTC, in which all of the District 214 schools participate, has been hosting the Chicagoland Drill Meet since 2001. Jeff Morse, senior naval science instructor at Wheeling High School, said 700 cadets from 22 schools in three states participate in the drill meet. Read Story

Buffalo Grove’s high-scoring Kam Craft and Oak Forest’s Robbie Avila are two other sophomores who have already made a major impact for two seasons at the varsity level. Craft, who is averaging 22.9 points a game, surpassed 1,000 career points last week in just a season and a half of work. Read Story
Girls bowling: Howard sisters lead Buffalo Grove to MSL title

It's a family affair this year for the Buffalo Grove girls bowling team. Sisters Rebecca, Ally and Nicki Howard have all excelled for the Bison, who rose to the top of the Mid-Suburban League Saturday in an exemplary season-long performance. BG won the MSL crown at the title meet at Arlington Lanes, and Rebecca Howard, a senior, led the way. Read Story
Buffalo Grove goes to 8-1 in MSL East

Buffalo Grove's girls basketball team remained tied for first place in the Mid-Suburban East with a 37-26 win at Elk Grove on Friday night. Senior Kendra Lee scored a game-high 13 points and Macy Floro added 6 to lead the Bison (16-9, 8-1) while Elk Grove (15-10, 3-6) was paced by Megan Murray's 16 points. Read Story
Craft scores 34 as Buffalo Grove downs Libertyville

For a kid who just poured in 34 points, who just broke the 1,000-point barrier for his career last weekend -- as a sophomore -- and whose game is improving in all phases Kam Craft, postgame after a 69-60 nonconference boys basketball win Wednesday night over visiting Libertyville, was pretty mellow and laid back. 1. What is your name? Erik Pérez
2. What department have you/do you work in? I’m currently working in the English/EL Department.
3. Where did you go to high school? I went to high school in México and Guatemala.
4. What part of working at BG do you find the most rewarding? I get great satisfaction in being in a role where I can make a positive difference in a student’s life. I like to connect with students, and constantly encourage them to give their best effort.
5. What is something unique about you? I enjoy doing translations, and helping people get their message across or the other way around—have access to accurate information they wouldn’t have been able to get otherwise.
6. What are you currently reading, and/or do you have a favorite author or podcast? I’m an assistant coach for the Boys Soccer Team.
