Friday Focus:  BG Students Construct Homes for Veterans

Each year students from BG and Rolling Meadows use their construction skills to support Veterans in the construction of Tiny Homes. This year our classes built 50 Tiny Homes and were asked to construct the Veterans Center which will provide Veterans physical and psychological support, career training, and a gathering space to meet with other members of their community.

In two days, over 90 students from the district, along with volunteers from the D214 Community, came together to assemble this building which will be sent to New Brunswick, Georgia. A dedication ceremony was held Tuesday at Forest View Education Center with a presentation including more than 15 Veteran organizations, many D214 students including our NJROTC, and former Illinois Governor Pat Quinn.

Softball: Buffalo Grove snaps Barrington's 25-game MSL streak

The Daily Herald, May 2, 2022

It's never been easy for opponents to leave the Fields of Dreams with a victory. There are eight banners on the outfield fence representing eight different softball teams from Barrington High School that have finished among the top four teams in the IHSA state tourney. "You walk into this place and it's always so rightfully intimidating," said Buffalo Grove coach Caitlyn Carpenter about the Fillies' nifty home park complete with lights, a press box and concession stand. "But it's fun. Our kids came in with so much energy today. It was crazy right from the warm up. They were so focused. They wanted it so bad. They were just lights out from top to bottom." The Daily Herald, April 25, 2022

A peach and strawberry scone made by students at Rolling Meadows High School, and an everything bagel babka baked by Elk Grove High School students, were the respective winning sweet and savory items in a culinary competition in Arlington Heights. State Sen. Ann Gillespie, Northwest Suburban High School District 214, Harper College, the Arlington Heights Chamber of Commerce and Arlington Heights Memorial Library co-hosted the first Great District 214 Culinary Competition Bake-Off Friday at the library's new Makerplace.
