District 214, feeder districts discuss changing school calendar, start times
The Daily Herald, September 16, 2015
Should Northwest suburban schools start later in the morning? Should the high school students take finals before winter break? Should districts consider a year-round school calendar? Those ideas and more were the subject of a joint school board meeting between High School District 214 and six of its elementary feeder districts on Tuesday. Read story

Staff Spotlight

1.  What is your name?  Michelle Price

2.  What department do you teach in/ what courses do you teach?  I teach photography and art.

3.  How long have you been teaching at BGHS?  This is year 20 for me!

4.  Where did you go to high school?  I went to Conant High School in Schaumburg.

5.  What part of school counseling do you find the most rewarding?  Art can open up a whole new world of expression for students.  Seeing a student use the tools I've given them to develop their own "voice" in their work is so rewarding.  Some students will go on to carve out a career in the arts; others will not.  But the capability and the desire to create and to express is valuable to all students throughout their lives.
My colleagues and I are very excited to be hosting an Art Alumni Show in BG's brand new art gallery, with an opening reception from 5-8 pm on October 9, Homecoming evening. We have a group of former students who have gone on to have successful careers in the arts. Our gallery will be showcasing their current work and will foster connections between alumni                      and current art students. All are invited to attend!

6.  What is something unique about you?   I took flamenco dance classes for over 10 years and performed in several local venues.  I love to travel and have been to 37 countries so far!  Next up is Sri Lanka during Winter Break.

7.  What activities or clubs do you coach / sponsor?  I sponsor the Free Flow Crew, BG's hip hop dance crew. In my "crew" there are many students with talent in various dance styles, creating their own original choreography, and teaching to others. Since joining this activity I have learned that so many of our students have talents we might not know about!  Free Flow gives these students a place to learn and share these talents with their peers, and perform for an audience.  I am also the Arts Unlimited Coordinator for our school.  I help bring arts-related speakers such as visual artists, chefs and choreographers to work with our students.
