Friday Focus  -   Harlem Renaissance

Student Trevor North brings the music of the Harlem Renaissance to BG
Today, we once again honored the many contributions of African Americans through BG’s very own Harlem Renaissance Forum. All juniors join together in the theater to attend an exploration of history, music, song, dance and literature from the Harlem Renaissance. The Harlem Renaissance celebrates the cultural, social, and artistic explosion that took place in Harlem between the end of World War I and the middle of the 1930s. During this period Harlem was a cultural center, drawing black writers, artists, musicians, photographers, poets, and scholars.  Under the direction of Debora Utley, our Expressions will perform, Mr. Jacobi will lead the Jazz Band, and several of our History and English teachers and students will educate the junior class in this true interdisciplinary experience.
