The Bison Way
New this year, each week we would like to recognize students and staff whose actions go above and beyond in their daily lives and epitomize the Bison Way. This week’s outstanding Bison are:
- Adir Vardias - “I (Mr. Kosiek) was in the fitness center supervising and everyone left. I then watched as a freshman young man, Adir Vardias, went around and picked up equipment that other individuals left lying around. It was quite remarkable... I had never said anything.”
- Marc Alejandro - While Principal Wardle was visiting Mr. Tschammer’s College Advanced Machine Technology class, freshman Marc Alejandro handed him safety goggles and reminded him to put them on.
- Emi Amaral - Emi Amaral truly believes in the Bison Way. Along with Lauren Godsell, the two of them led the team in creating a team creed. They were able to get thoughts together from their teammates, but Emi went above and beyond and took the teams thoughts and put them altogether to create a creed. She shows leadership every day in her great attitude and effort, but the Bison Way is about doing more than what is asked of you.
Celebrating Our Success!
- The Marching Band, the Co-Ed Cheerleaders, and Poms had great performances in the Buffalo Grove Days Parade over Labor Day weekend!
- Varsity Boys Golf defeated Elk Grove 167-170 as they celebrated our fine senior golfers on Senior Night!
- Another shout out to Boys Varsity Golfers, freshmen Dori Lee and Ryan Beerheide. Last week Ryan placed 6th and Dori placed 12th out of 78 boys in the tournament. Ryan shot a 74 and Dori 77. Great start to your high school golf career, boys.
- Congratulations to Boys Soccer on their 6-0 win over Schaumburg this week!
- Bison Girls Golf move to 7-3 on year with win over the tough Wheeling squad this week.

In a series of free classes, Daily Herald editors and District 214 journalism teachers will educate the community on how to identify lies, spin and bias that might masquerade as news. You'll learn how words, photos, audio recordings and even video can be faked, and why reputable journalists don’t do so. Boys golf: Lee's fitting in just fine at BG
The Daily Herald, September 1, 2018
Buffalo Grove coach Pete Duffer has been very impressed this season with the play of freshman golfer Dori Lee. "I had heard about him over the years," said Duffer of his incoming frosh, "and really, he's better than I had heard. "He's got a great personality, his attitude is strong, he's a competitor and he does a nice job of keeping his emotions in check as he plays." Read Story
Buffalo Grove keeps a long-term approach after lopsided loss to Barrington
Chicago Tribune, September 1, 2018
Things started going poorly for Buffalo Grove on Friday night from the very first offensive snap. The Bison’s best playmaker, senior running back Tom Trieb, came up with a contested 35-yard catch on the left sideline on the first snap. After going to the ground awkwardly, he immediately paced the sideline gingerly and never fully recovered. Read Story
Boys Golf Season Outlooks

Journal & Topics, August 23, 2018
“We have three freshman with a lot of competitive golf experience, a sophomore that has improved a lot and three seniors with high school golf experience. If they adapt a competitive mindset and couple that with skill development we will surprise some people. Dori Lee (Fr.) is our current No. 1 golfer and is a top player in the state of Illinois. He has the poise and desire to not only play great individual golf, but to push his teammates positively in the right direction. He is the strongest freshman since Doug Ghim (currently a PGA pro) played.” Read Story
Scouting Week 3, Northwest
The Daily Herald, September 6, 2018
Buffalo Grove (1-1) at Deerfield (1-1)When: Friday, 7 p.m.
Last year's result: Did not play
Outlook: It was a rough game for the Bison last week, as they lost Tom Trieb to a hip injury early in the game against Barrington and never recovered. Trieb is questionable for this week, and Buffalo Grove will need to lean heavily on its seniors to step up their play and bounce back. Read Story

Boys soccer: Peici's on target as Buffalo Grove handles Rolling Meadows
The Daily Herald, September 6, 2018
Two sensational goals by Jon Peici were enough to hold off a late charge by Rolling Meadows and help visiting Buffalo Grove to a 3-1 victory Thursday in Mid-Suburban League boys soccer. The Bison (5-3-1, 3-0-0) drew an emphatic line in the sand in the first full week of league play, following a 6-0 result over Schaumburg earlier to help the Bison keep pace with division rival Hersey.
