Friday Focus: Career Pathways
On Monday, October 1, hundreds of educators from across the country will be coming to our District for the 2018 Redefining Ready! National Summit to learn about the work that our District 214 schools are doing to ensure that our students are college, career and life ready. Summit attendees will be meeting with our staff as well as visiting each of our schools to see this work in action.
Participants will primarily be focused on learning about our career pathways program and we will be sharing resources, such as our Career Pathways Booklet with them. As you know, this booklet serves as a comprehensive booklet for staff, parents and students as well as as a tool for post-secondary planning. I encourage you to review the latest version and discuss it with your students.
During the evening of October 1, we will host a College and Career Ready! Night at the Forest View Educational Center, which is open to all current and soon-to-be District 214 students and their parents. - Congratulations to our Bison Pride Marching Band on a solid FIRST place finish in class AA at the Naperville Central Marching Classic! Congrats to our guard for receiving first for best guard in class AA!
- Congratulations to the 2018 Buffalo Grove Boys Varsity Soccer team, who clinched the Mid Suburban East Division title last night!
- Congratulations to our Girls Volleyball team on their solid win over Hersey Thursday night. The Bison moved into a first-place tie with Hersey, the 15-time defending champion of the Mid-Suburban East!
- Our Elevate athletes did a great job spreading the message of living a healthy lifestyle to Thomas Middle School students on Thursday.
- Congratulations to Zoe Childs on recording her first Eagle on the 16th hole at the Buffalo Grove Golf Club.

Leading up to a big Mid-Suburban East week with Rolling Meadows Tuesday and league leader Hersey on Thursday, Buffalo Grove's girls volleyball team got the momentum boost it was looking for on Monday night. Going up against a 12-5 Stevenson team which they had lost to in three sets at the Niles West tourney earlier this season, the host Bison came away with the three-set win this time 22-25, 25-19, 25-21 in a nonconference match. Girls Teams Get Going On New Hockey Season

Now that the 90-degree temperatures outside have subsided (we hope), sports fans can finally come to the realization that it is time for the 2018-2019 high school hockey season. While there are the usual suspects of quality area boys teams, the girls high school hockey season is growing by one. In addition to Maine Township girls hockey and state championship runner-up Glenbrook, there is now the District 211/District 214 Rebels program for girls. Read Story
Buffalo Grove boys soccer shifts its focus to offense

To win a soccer game, a team must outscore its opponent. That’s nothing new. But for the Buffalo Grove boys soccer team, that seemingly logical and desirable approach represents a change in philosophy from a year ago. Gone are the days of trying to win 1-0 games. Thus far, the decision made by new coach Darren Llewellyn is paying dividends, with the Bison routinely playing with a lead while also feeling confident that a rare deficit can swiftly be wiped out. Staff Spotlight
1. What is your name? Jeff Bott
2. What department have you/do you work in and what do you do? I am the division head for Career and Technical Education, Physical Education, Drivers Education and Health.
3. How long have you been working at BG? This is my 6th year in my position at BG and my 18th year in education.
4. Where did you go to high school? I went to high school at Wheeling.
5. What part of teaching at BG do you find the most rewarding? In my current position I enjoy helping students be successful in the next step of their educational process, whether that is a university, trade school, or workforce. I want to make sure that every BG students has access to any of the AP, Dual-Credit, and Certificate opportunities that all of the areas that I oversee offer.
6. What is something unique about you? During my first couple years of teaching I was also a FireFighter.
7. What activities or clubs do you coach/ sponsor? I help out with the Robotics Club, High Mileage Car, and Next Generation of Engineers.
