 The Bison Impact:

Hispanic Heritage Summit = Big Success

We are truly better together, and this event illustrates that in every way. Last year, we had just over 200 students together in celebration; this year, that grew to over 325 students.  We can't wait to see what the next summit will bring!

The Bison Marching Band completed its 2022 competitive season with a fantastic performance at the 15th Annual Naperville Central High School Marching Classic.

Our students earned Best Music, Best Percussion, Best General Effect, Best Visual Effect, Best Color Guard (yes, a full sweep!), and a 1st place finish in Class A competition!

Our students worked incredibly hard this season and consistently represented our school with dignity and class on and off the field.

The local BG/H/W hockey team is hosting a charity skate this Sunday, October 23rd to benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.  This team consists of players that attend Buffalo Grove, Hersey or Wheeling high schools.  There will be opportunities to donate directly or to buy tickets to win cash, gift cards, or gift baskets.  We are also partnering with the Happiness Project, started by Hersey students after the death of one of their classmates in 2017.  The Happiness Project sells merchandise promoting mental health and donates a percentage to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

Staff Spotlight

1.What is your name?

Sean O'Connor

2. What department have you/ do you work in?

Physical Education/Aquatics

3. How long have you been working at BG?

How many weeks into the school year are we? I think I've been here as long as I had been retired. This is my first year here at Buffalo Grove. I retired from 26 years of teaching science at Addison Trail High School this past May.

4. Where did you go to high school/ college?

I graduated from Elk Grove High School in 1980. Yes, a long time ago but not in a galaxy far far away. I attentended Millikin University in Decatur for two years and then transferred to and graduated from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. I worked as a project engineer in the chemical industry for 10 years before going back to DePaul University for my education degree and certification.

5. What part of working at BG do you find the most rewarding?

The people here have been awesome. Incredibly welcoming. I feel like I've worked here my entire career.

6. What are you currently reading, and/ or do you have a favorite author or podcast?

I'm not much of a reader. I read The Postman by David Brin over the summer. Lately I've been listening to personal finance podcasts.

7. What is something unique about you?

I sometimes speak in movie quotes. I know you're thinking "Inconceivable!" But, you keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

8.  What’s a bucket list item for you?

I have a lot of places I want to see but a top priority is to ride the Greater Allegheny passage and the C & O Towpath from Pittsburgh to Washington D. C.
