 Friday Focus: 

One Grove Gallery Features 2023 Senior Art Show

Reception Open to the Public February 16th at 6:00 pm

The 2023 Senior Art Show is up and running in the One Grove Gallery. This exhibition highlights the dedication and hard work of BG art students and AP art students throughout their high school career. Each artist curates their space and tells a story about their artist journey. This year in particular, you will notice as you read the artist statements how art has played an instrumental role in many of their lives. This show celebrates the students' successes, as many go on to pursue art in their future endeavors. A reception for the public will be held on Thursday February 16th from 6:00- 7:00 pm. The artists celebrated in this exhibit are: Julia Barnett, Elayna Catania, Ellis Chamorro, Kaylie Clark, Colleen Dahl, Sarah Joseph, Kiersten Hung, Ellen Lee, Emilia Sehenuik, Leslie Sandoval Serrano, Louis Solis and Audrey Yang.


DePaul University Opportunity for Seniors

First Generation in Law Scholars Program

Last summer, DePaul University held the inaugural cohort for DePaul Law’s First Generation in Law Scholars Program (FGLP). The second cohort is scheduled for programming from June 26–30, 2023. Last year’s cohort had a waiting list, and they expect the same for this year. BGPA & Senior Class Board Sponsor Blood Drive

Big thank you to our Buffalo Grove High School Community for a successful blood drive this week! We collected 104 pints that will go to those who most need blood.

  • Congratulations to Girls Bowling on their 2nd place IHSA Regional finish! They will advance next week to the sectional round as a team! A special congratulations to Bowler Nicki Howard, the IHSA Regional Champion! 

  • Congratulations to Speech Team members Natalie Liigsoo & Julia Pedersen (DDA), Aniketh Subash (Impromptu) and Catherine Bautista (Poetry) who competed last weekend at Regionals and will advance to compete at Sectionals on Saturday at Hinsdale Central! 

  • Congratulations to both the JV and Varsity Scholastic Bowl teams who both won their matches this week to end the regular season! Scholastic Bowl finished the regular MSL East season with a perfect 10-0 for the third year in a row!

  • Congratulations to Model UN and to Chloe Kurinsky for winning Outstanding Delegate in the 1982 US Cabinet serving as the director of the CIA at the Chicago International Model UN Conference! This 3-day conference held in downtown Chicago was an amazing experience. BGMUN Alumni Brandon Lawrence (class of 2019) and Adam Suleiman (class of 2020) were on this year’s CIMUN staff!

  • Congratulations to the Varsity Wrestlers who competed in the IHSA 3A Regionals qualified for Sectionals:  Vlad Fedorchenko placed 2nd, Xander Simmons placed 3rd, and David Rodriguez placed 3rd. Shout out to Daniel Diaz and Isaac Wilson who placed 4th!

  • Congratulations to Swimmer Emanuel Gavrilos on placing 5th in the 100 breastroke at the Frosh/Soph conference meet last weekend!

  • Congratulations to Swimmer David Olaru who placed 5th in the 200 free and 5th in the 100 backstroke at the Frosh/Soph conference meet last weekend!

  • Congratulations to Swimmers David Olaru, Nick Shomali, Tim Nix, Tamazi Sanadiradzeon on their 6th place finish in the 200 free relay at the Frosh/Soph conference meet last weekend!

  • Congratulations to Barrett Garrard on taking 3rd place at the Frosh/Soph Diving championship last Friday!

  • Congratulations to Girls Basketball player, Olivia Genthner, on being named an MSL All-Conference player this year!


"Winterpalooza" Winter Dance

Saturday, February 25th 7:30 - 10:30 pm 

This year’s winter dance, “Winterpalooza” will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2023, from 7:30-10:30 pm at BG. Here are some highlights:


  • In the Main Gym - DJ Calvin and dancing and photo opp!

  • In the Field House - Ice Skating Rink - that's right, we are renting an indoor ice skating rink for you and your friends. In addition, there will be a Snow Globe photo opp!

  • Dress- Traditional Formal Wear OR (new this year) come with your group of friends dressed in a theme of your choice! (Examples: Wild West, Preppy, Decade of your choice, Snow Bunnies, Halloween, Specific Color, etc). 


Winterpalooza Ticket Sales

  • Discounted Tickets will be on sale from Thursday, February 16th at 8:00 am through Friday, February 17th at 3:00 pm for $25 per person

  • Regular priced tickets will be on sale Friday, February 17th at 3:01 pm through Friday, February 24th at 3:30 pm for $30 per single ticket and $60 per couple.

  • All tickets will be sold on BGHS GoFan link found HERE.

  • Do not "REDEEM YOUR TICKET" until you arrive at the dance. No screenshots. This is just like a professional sports event.

Orchesis presents Radiance

February 9-11th at 7:00 pm

Buffalo Grove High School's Orchesis, under the direction of Michelle Carrison and Assistant Hannah Vaselaney, will proudly present their annual dance show at 7:00 pm on February 9, 10 and 11, 2023. This year’s performance is entitled RADIANCE. In honor of Buffalo Grove High School’s 50th anniversary, there will be a special Alumni Performance on Saturday February 11 to celebrate the 50 years of dance. Tickets can be purchased for students



Symphonic Band Festival February 16th

Buffalo Grove High School will host a Symphonic Band Festival on Thursday February 16th at 7:00 pm in the theater. The band will welcome special guest conductor, Dr. Andrea Brown, from the University of Maryland. The Hersey band will also join the Bison for this amazing performance. Don’t miss it!

What department do you work in? I work in the Attendance Office as an Attendance Interventionist. 


How long have you been working at BG? I have been at BG for 5 months.


Where did you go to high school? I went to Wheeling High School, Class of 2010.


What part of working at BG do you find the most rewarding? Making a positive impact on a student. The bond I have built with students.


What are you currently reading, and/ or do you have a favorite author or podcast?  

My current favorite author is Colleen Hoover.


What is something unique about you? The meaning of the name Nereida is "Mermaid".

BUFFALO GROVE, Ill. - A northwest suburban high school's cheer team won state over the weekend for the fourth time in the school's history. The IHSA state championship was held in downstate Bloomington, and Buffalo Grove High School came out on top.

BUFFALO GROVE (ILL.) 84, PRAIRIE 59: The Hawks lost a tough game Saturday in the WBBY Wisconsin vs. Illinois Border Battle at Prairie. Prairie (11-8) went down early to a 45-30 halftime deficit to Buffalo Grove (10-16), which was backed by a 27-point performance from Connor Woodin, a 19-point performance from Lucas Anam-Ndu and a 12-point performance from Kyle Grote. “Buffalo Grove came in here and just shot the lights out in the first half — hats off to them,” Prairie coach Jason Atanasoff said. “We did some things uncharacteristic on the offensive end and we just didn’t have much left in the tank after last night. Their pressure really bothered us and sped us up into take some quick low-percentage shots.” Read Story


Plenty To Cheer About For Buffalo Grove’s State Champions

Buffalo Grove cheerleaders saved their best for last at the 18th annual IHSA state finals for competitive cheerleading Saturday, Feb. 4 at Grossinger Motors Arena in Bloomington. Buffalo Grove jumped from third in prelims Friday to first in the finals Saturday to win the coed team state championship. The Bison scored 91.1 points in the prelims, but shot up to 94.57 in the finals to best nine other teams with the 3.46-point improvement. Read Story




ATTENTION SENIORS!

BGPA Scholarship Application is Now Open

The Buffalo Grove High School Parent Association (“BGPA”) and donor Mrs. Jackie Sell are pleased to award scholarships to recognize the achievement of our students. The winners will be selected based on school and community involvement, leadership, motivation, and academics, as well as a compelling personal essay. All graduating BGHS Class of 2023 seniors are eligible for this scholarship. Additionally, scholarship Applicants must plan to attend a post-secondary or technical school as a full-time or part-time student and must meet District 214’s requirements to participate in and to be awarded a diploma at commencement in 2022. The Scholarship is an outright gift and will be announced and disbursed at the Principal's Awards Night on May 17, 2023.


All applications will be reviewed with complete anonymity. The completed application (with required signatures) must be received in the BGHS College/Career Center by the end of school on Tuesday, April 4, 2023. All decisions made by BGPA will be final.
