 Friday Focus:

LASO Students host Chicago College Bowl “Pachanga”

Last Friday, the LASO students organized a party, “Pachanga,” for 250 students from the participating Chicano College Bowl schools in the area. “The Chicano College Bowl (CCB) is an annual event that is sponsored by the Highland Park High School-Hispanos Unidos Club. It’s a knowledge bowl tournament based on the PBS video series Latino Americans. This is an interactive and fun way for students to learn about U.S. history with a Latino focus, and it enriches a positive cultural identity. It also provides an opportunity for many students to meet with each other and share their own experiences in their communities and schools.” The 2024 Chicano College Bowl will take place on April 27th at HIghland Park High School.

One might think it was just a party, but these students wanted to share their culture and be part of their community. They provided everybody with traditional foods and directed games for all visiting students. There was no trophy to bring home, but they showed leadership, and they were a true representation of what BG Belong stands for. Shout out to the following LASO students: Citllali Medina, Sheily Hernandez, Vanesa Hernandez, Elizabeth Lopez Jimenez, Ruby Medina, Taylor Malone, Katherine Jacobo, Guadalupe Miranda Martinez, Samantha Avalos Calderon, Savannah Mercado Martinez, Mia Castillo, Katheryne Velasquez, Itzel Bernal, Natalie Peralta, Joselyn Miranda Martinez, Ansari Callente, Jocelyn Jacobo, Montse Molina, Jazmin Robles Castro, Maya Limas.

“What You Need to Know when Your Child Turns 18”

The Buffalo Grove High School Parent Association will be hosting a presentation on "What You Need To Know When Your Child Turns 18" on Monday, March 18th at 7:00 pm in the BGHS theater. When your child turns eighteen, they are considered legal adults. With this milestone comes some important changes for them, for you, and your family. Once your child becomes a legal adult, your rights to their financial, medical, and educational records are limited without the proper authorization in place. During an unexpected critical situation and without proper documents in place, a parent may find themselves in a position of despair. Get informed, and learn more!

There will be two guest speakers presenting, Alan R. Press, JD, CPA, and Caren E. I. Naidoff, JD, from the Shire Law Group, PC®. Following the presentation, we will have a Q&A session. The event is open to all D214 parents/guardians. Reserve your seat today! FREE TO BGPA MEMBERS - BGPA Members Reserve Here. It is $5 per ticket for non-members, Buy & Reserve Here. Cash only at the door.
