Coat Drive Sponsored by the Environmental Club
Each year, children in the Chicagoland area struggle to afford a coat during the winter and this is something that many people in the community have recognized, including us here at Buffalo Grove High School. During the month of November, the Environmental Club at BGHS will be working directly with a nonprofit group, Button and Zipper, to collect coats for individuals who do not have the resources available to purchase them on their own.

BGHS will have TWO boxes where students can drop off coats to be collected and brought to the Button and Zipper drop-off location. The only requirement is that any donated coat needs to be functional. This means that the zippers have to work and their cannot be any rips, tears, or holes in the fabric.

In the coming month, please send your student to school with any extra coats you may have at home. If you have any questions, please contact Michael McPartlin, the Environmental Club sponsor via email at michael.mcpartlin@d214.org.

Buffalo Grove students create Skunk Aid kit
The Daily Herald, October 26, 2016

Bella, a 4-year old Goldendoodle owned by the Relias family of Arlington Heights, has a starring role in a new startup company devised by three enterprising Buffalo Grove High School students. It seems Bella has been skunked as many as four times. When Nicole Relias and other members of her group in her entrepreneurship class last year were offering up problems to be solved, she shared Bella's tale of woe. Read Story

Students take turn running Buffalo Grove village government
The Daily Herald, October 25, 2016

When Buffalo Grove Village President Beverly Sussman called Monday night's village board meeting to order, the trustees usually situated around her on the dais were instead seated in the audience.  In their place were Advanced Placement government students from Buffalo Grove and Stevenson high schools, who took up real budget items, debated their merits and ultimately voted to fund a project.  Read Story

4. Where did you go to high school?  I went to Prospect High School.

5. What part of working at BG do you find the most rewarding?   I love watching students grow and step out of their comfort zones.  Especially in Foods class, because they start the semester being so unsure and timid, and by the end of the semester they’re much more confident in their skills. It’s even more rewarding to see them continue on with the Culinary Arts pathway.

6. What is something unique about you? I’m the director of concessions at BG!

7. What activities or clubs do you coach/ sponsor? I am going to sponsor the ProStart students this year and take them to Annual ProStart Invitational. I’m also going to work with the Prospect High School FCCLA club.
