Friday Focus  -  Elevate Travels to Thomas Middle School

Cv0ey0RVIAAS9PG.jpgBG students from our new Elevate program traveled to Thomas Middle School last Thursday to discuss making positive choices with the middle school students.  It was a great day to connect with our future Bison and be positive role models to these students. Thanks to all the Elevate students for demonstrating incredible leadership in our community! #OneBG





District 21/214 Orchestra Festival
Buffalo Grove and Wheeling High School Orchestras, together with Cooper Middle School, London Middle School, and Holmes Middle School participated in the District 21/214 Orchestra Festival on Tuesday. CwMBEHtWcAA_WYi.jpg-small

All district 21 orchestra students pictured above spent the day at BGHS rehearsing with guest conductor Frank Lestina in preparation for the evening's performance.

Pictured below, all of the middle school students joined with the BGHS and WHS orchestras to play a rousing rendition of Take Me Out to the Ballgame to end the night.  Guest Conductor Frank Lestina, Sarah (WHS), and BG Orchestra Director, Elizabeth Bennett, lead the audience in singing!

Buffalo Grove Show Choir's Cabaret Night Nov. 5

Buffalo Grove High School's Expressions Show Choir, under the direction of Debora Utley, will present its "Cabaret Night" at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 5.  The Expressions, an award-winning show choir that has been in existence for over 40 years, is composed of 42 singer/dancers, 16 band members and six crew members. New Director Looks For BG Marching Band To Step Up

Along with new Director of Bands Henry Kappler, Buffalo Grove High School should be able to form a competitive marching band and color guard in the next two to three years.  Though the school has had a marching band program since the 1980s, they have not competed for quite some time, according to Kappler. His goal is to build up the band to marching band status, and develop a new color guard program to keep up with standards. Read Story

1. What is your name?  Tom Cooney

2. What department have you/ do you work in?  I teach in the Math/Science department!  I teach Algebra 1 and Geometry.

3. How long have you been working at BG?  This is my first year teaching at BG and sixth year teaching in District 214.

4. Where did you go to high school? I went to BG!!  Go Bison!

5. What part of working at BG do you find the most rewarding?  I think what I find most rewarding about teaching is when a student struggles with a certain concept and then you see it finally click for them.   

6. What is something unique about you? I have a total of 29 first cousins!


7. What activities or clubs do you coach/ sponsor? I am the assistant coach for Boys Swimming and Boys Water Polo.
