Friday Focus - Skunk Aid joins Mr. Fixit Lou Manfredini on WGN radio
This past Saturday, one of our Entrepreneurship groups, the creators of Skunk Aid, and teacher Karen Roberts had the pleasure of being on the Lou Manfredini (Mr. Fixit) show on WGN radio. This was a great opportunity that opened many doors for these students. Their Skunk Aid product is now being sold in two Ace Hardware stores which are owned by Lou and his wife. The radio appearance gave them new exposure, and they have been filling many orders since. If you have a dog, this is a “must have” kit, as it really does work. The time and effort these girls have put into their business is unbelievable for 16,17, and 18 year olds who go to school everyday and participate in activities, as well.
What these students are able to do and experience would not be possible without the leadership, support and guidance of all the community members that work with the BGHS Entrepreneurship class, not to mention their fabulous mentor, Mike Schiestel who provides them daily and weekly advice and support.

Staff Spotlight
2. What department have you/ do you work in? I am in the Math/Science Department where I teach Geometry and Intermediate Algebra
3. How long have you been working at BG? 1 year at BG and the 10th year in District 214.
4. Where did you go to high school? Driscoll Catholic High School
5. What part of working at BG do you find the most rewarding? I enjoy seeing the light bulb go on. That moment that you know they understand. You see the joy in the students' faces, and (with Math especially) they find something that they may not have enjoyed before, but now they do.
6. What is something unique about you? Most people know that I enjoy running, and have run a number of marathons... but I come from a family of teachers. I have 4 siblings, 3 of which are high school teachers. One is Math, one is Math and French, and another is History. I guess we bought into our parents' belief in the importance of an education.
7. What activities or clubs do you coach/ sponsor? I am the Varsity Girls Cross Country Coach and an Assistant Girls Basketball Coach.
