Staff Spotlight
What is your name? Sharon Horwath
What department do you teach in/ How long have you been teaching at BG? I teach French in the Social Science and World Languages Department. I have been a Bison for 4 years and this is my 9th year in the district.
Where did you go to high school? I went to Hoffman Estates High School.
What part of teaching do you find the most rewarding? I feel fortunate that teaching French allows me to get to know the students, their interests and their talents. It is amazing to see students incorporate what they have learned to express themselves. I truly enjoy having students share their own cultures alongside our exploration of francophone cultures.
What new thing have you learned this year teaching remotely? I have always valued reflection as a tool for growth. The changes in format and class time over the last year have shifted the pace and focus of learning. Students have been given more opportunities to create, reflect and revise their work. This shift has positively impacted the development of their language skills as well as their confidence. I am glad that this reflective practice has proven beneficial to the students as well.
What are you currently reading, and/or do you have a favorite author or podcast? I enjoy the variety of podcasts from RFI (Radio France Internationale).
What activities or clubs do you coach/ sponsor? I sponsor French Club and French Honor Society.
What is something unique about you? I am game for almost any game, activity or sport. Some favorites include cards, air hockey, white water rafting and most recently, pickleball.

The Daily Herald, April 15, 2021
Outlook: The game of the year in the Mid-Suburban East. The winner will play for the MSL Championship against Barrington. It should be quite an offensive show with Prospect averaging nearly 46 points per game and Buffalo Grove 33.5.
