Staff Spotlight

What is your name? Taylor Franzen

What department have you/ do you work in? I'm a police officer with the Buffalo Grove Police Department, assigned to Buffalo Grove High School as the Police Liaison/School Resource Officer.

How long have you been working at BG?  This is my first year as the Police Liaison at BG. I've been a police officer with Buffalo Grove Police Department since August of 2018. Prior to that, I was an officer with the University of Illinois Police Department for three years.

Where did you go to high school? I went to St. Joseph-Ogden High School, a school much smaller than BG in east-central Illinois.

What part of working at BG do you find the most rewarding? The most rewarding part of working at BG has been getting to know the staff and students here. The staff have all been so welcoming and supportive, and truly make this a great school to work for. As a police officer, the most rewarding part of my job has always been making a difference in the lives of others. At BGHS I've been able to make genuine connections with some students already, and I'd like to think I've positively impacted their lives.

What are you currently reading, and/ or do you have a favorite author or podcast? Right now I'm reading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Reading was something I didn't come to appreciate until the end of high school, so I've been reading the Harry Potter series for the first time this year. My absolute favorite podcast is Crime Junkie. I've listened to every episode (both the regular feed and the patreon feed) at least twice. I think everyone could learn valuable lessons on personal safety, and how we should treat each other, just by listening to the show. Fun fact, they've also covered a case I worked on when I was at UIPD!

What is something unique about you? I come from a very musical family--my dad's cousin was the drummer for Static-X, my sister was nominated for a Grammy, and both my younger siblings will be attending a Fine Arts high school in California this fall. I play guitar and ukulele, so that's my contribution to the fam.

What activities or clubs do you coach/ sponsor?  What activities at BG do you follow? I coach JV Softball at BG and follow softball the closest. Outside of softball season, I'm part of the Gender Sexuality Alliance (GSA) club at BG.
