BGHS Athletic Fields Renovation Plans

Community Open House Invitation 2/13 or 2/15

Buffalo Grove High School is developing plans to renovate the athletic fields on our campus to make them more compliant with current accessibility expectations and safer to meet the needs of our students and community. Enhancing the student experience and creating the best possible environment for learning/growing is a fundamental element of our mission in High School District 214. We strive to help our students reach their full potential as citizens who can meet the challenges of a changing society. We hope you will celebrate these renovations with us. Next week, we are hosting two informational “Open House” sessions where we will be sharing our plans with any interested community members. You are not only invited, but you are welcome. The details are as follows:

When: The school and District will host two open houses:

  • 7 p.m. on February 13, 2024

  • 7 p.m. on February 15, 2024

Where: The BGHS Library. Enter through Door #1 at the main entrance.

What to Expect: Both evenings will present the same short presentation by the architects and staff, focusing on:

  • How will the renovations improve the student experience?

  • How will the projects positively impact the visitor experience?

  • Renovations plans for the summer of 2024.

  • Phasing plans for future improvements.

  • Renderings of what the fields will look like.

  • How the District works collaboratively with the village and the regional stormwater authority to ensure compliance with state and local zoning laws and stormwater control requirements.

  • An opportunity for community members to ask questions and offer comments.

Staff Spotlight - Jill Hoffman

What is your name? Jill Hoffman

What department do you teach in/ How long have you been teaching at BG? I teach Art Survey in the Art Department and this is my first year at BG.

Where did you go to high school/college?  I went to Hersey, Harper College, McKendree (STL), and Durham University (England).

What part of teaching do you find the most rewarding? The visual exploration of play - students getting to use new tools and materials to express themselves. The joy when ideas come to fruition.

What’s a bucket list item for you? A bucket list item of mine is traveling to Italy! I studied abroad and it absolutely gave me the travel bug.

What are you currently reading, and/or do you have a favorite author or podcast?                                    I'm currently reading 101 Essays That Will Change The Way You Think. I'm always interested in inner work and it got recommended by a friend.

What activities or clubs do you coach/sponsor? I coach Volleyball and Water Polo at Hersey, but I also encourage all BG students to attend Art club - It's very laid back, welcoming, and a great way to explore art materials with your own direction.

What is something unique about you? Something unique about me is that I love thrifting. I could spend hours in a crowded, cluttered shop looking for repurposed treasures.

BGHS in the News

BGHS junior heads to the floor of the U.S. Senate

The Daily Herald, February 2, 2024

One Buffalo Grove High School junior will be spending the rest of the school year on Capitol Hill. Yes, that one—in Washington, D.C.  Alina Hussain got interested in government and policymaking during three years on the BGHS Model U.N. team and after an internship last summer at a law firm. Surfing the internet for ideas about what to do with her upcoming summer, and thinking about something related to political science, she came across the U.S. Senate Page Program—and decided to apply.
