Friday Focus:  Asian Student Showcase Friday 3/10

The BGHS Asian Student Association will host an exciting event celebrating the AAPI community and featuring food and culture from around Asia on Friday, March 10, from 6:00-8:15 pm. The event is free to the public and fun for families!

Kick off the night in the cafeteria at 6:00 pm with food and fun activities. Local food vendors will be on hand offering a variety of Asian cuisine, along with students and local AAPI organizations showcasing their contributions to the community. Attendees can learn more about AAPI culture and history through informational boards.  For fun, there will be a photo and a photo op area for a break in between vendors.

Andrew Hong, founder of the restorative streetwear brand, We Each Belong, will serve as the keynote speaker for the evening, following a greeting by Illinois State Representative Jennifer Gong-Gershowitz. Through his We Each Belong brand, Hong utilizes designs and communication to deepen the connectedness of Asians and other communities of color.

AAPI students from our community will showcase their culture on the C.M. Miller Theatre stage with student performances by Korean Soribeat, Indian Bollywood, traditional Chinese dance and more! Be sure to stick around after dinner for these amazing performances. For more information regarding this event, please contact Jeanne Shin-Cooper, Buffalo Grove High School teacher and Asian Student Association sponsor at  jeanne.shincoop@d214.org.
