 Friday Focus: Celebrating the Class of 2023

This week we celebrated the Class of 2023 with the commencement ceremony on Wednesday night. Earlier in the week, the following students were received special recognition with Division Awards:  Audrey Yang (Art), Erin Knauf (Business Education), Joshua Larkowski (Technology), Nicholas Edstrom (Computer Science), Diana Guerrero (Future Educator), Beckham Cordell (Family & Consumer Sciences), Christine Yuan (English), Vlad Fedorchenko (English Language Learners), Neko Heinrich (Multimedia: Leadership), Olivia Gould (Multimedia: Rising Journalist), Jane Krivosheev (Biology), Tyler Lieu (Chemistry), Lucas Pasdo (Physics), Apoorv Pitta (Mathematics), Charlie Morrison (Choral Music), Carina Obrecht (Instrumental Music-Band), Andrew Hoang (Instrumental Music-Orchestra), Lucia Caringella (Dance), Rebekkah Nellans (Physical Education), Cesar Diaz (Physical Education), Camille Carlson (French), Holden Wheeler (Spanish), Leslie Sandoval Serrano (Spanish for Heritage Learners), Sofia Vartic (German), Jennifer Waz (History), Holden Wheeler (Social Science). 


In addition to the Division Awards, Maya Semmelman received the Activity Award,  Gavin Lee the School Spirit Award, Audrey Yang the BGHS nomination for the Richard J. Calisch Arts Unlimited Award, and Athletes of the Year were Mario Torres and Victoria Surdyka. Finally, the recipients of the 2023 Principal’s Awards were Charlie Morrison, Audrey Yang and Holden Wheeler. Congratulations Class of 2023!

  • Congratulations to IHSA State qualifiers competing this week, Mario Torres (Track) and Apoorv Pitta and Justin Adrowski (Tennis)!

  • Good luck to the Softball team as they take on Stevenson in the Regional Championship game tomorrow at 11:00 am at Glenbrook South!

  • Congratulations to our 4 All-Conference Baseball players, Payton Diaz, Michael Wolverton, Mason Hulligan, and Brody Mac!  Come cheer on the team as they take on Stevenson this Saturday at 11:00 am at Stevenson HS!

  • Congratulations to Boys Volleyball Bison on their post season win over Viator in two!

  • Congratulations to seniors Mario Torres (Boys Track & Field) and Victoria Surdyka (Girls Water Polo) on being named Athletes of the Year!

  • Congratulations to our All-Conference Boys Volleyball players David Hill and AJ Ratzki!

  • Congratulations to Girls Soccer players Ellie Askew and Isabella Dulaney named All-Sectional!

Avoid Costly Replacement Fees!

A reminder to please return all library books, textbooks, calculators, team uniforms and equipment before the end of the school year next Friday. You will not be able to see your 2023-24 schedule when they are released in August, if you have items that have not been returned.


Arlington Heights Library Finals Study Lounge

The Arlington Heights Library is offering a Finals Study Lounge to help students finish the 2022-2023 school year strong. Study for final exams in the Hub and throughout the Library. The Library will provide brain-powering snacks, laptops and group study areas to help students prepare. For high school students only.

Please note: The library is closed on Monday, May 29 for Memorial Day.

2023 Retiree Spotlight on Cori White

What is your name? Cori White


What department do you teach in/How long have you been teaching at BG? 33 years in the English department.


What courses have you taught in your career? All core courses with a focus on juniors and seniors including: AP Language and Composition, American Literature and Composition, Contemporary American Texts and Composition, American Studies, Multicultural Literature, among other electives . . .


What part of the career of teaching have you found the most rewarding? Challenging students to engage in inquiry:  original thought through observation, listening, reading, writing....living in the land of "ideas" with young people.


What are you most looking forward to in retirement? A shift in daily rhythm to travel, family, nature, fiber arts and new ways of contributing to the social contract. 


What are you currently reading, and/or do you have a favorite author or podcast? Recently finished Dan Eagan's The Devil's Element: Phosphorus and a World Out of Balance, Barbara Kingsolver's Demon Copperhead, and Amy Irvine's Desert Cabal: A New Season in the Wilderness.....would recommend them all.

A how-to video has been created to help families navigate the registration system, WATCH IT HERE. To register, you will need your student’s D214 student ID number, student’s date of birth, household zip code, and the student’s school. The registration system is mobile-friendly, so you can register anywhere with any device.
