Buffalo Grove finished a stretch of three games in four nights with a convincing 64-31 Mid-Suburban League boys basketball crossover victory at Hoffman Estates Monday. After leading the host Hawks 19-16 after the first quarter, the Bison (6-2) put the game away outscoring Hoffman 39-13 in the middle two quarters. Read Story

Buffalo Grove overcomes Wheeling
The Daily Herald, December 6, 2019
Nate Cole was spot on with his analysis. "Part of being on a team, there's always some internal conflict," Cole said. Maybe that's the experience in him talking. The Buffalo Grove senior forward has been on his share of basketball teams over the years. He's seen the dynamics, the chemistry and the personalities of many different teams. But this Buffalo Grove team, which could be rife with the drama of a power struggle between a young star and the old guard, is a little different from others. Read Story

Staff Spotlight

1. What is your name? Stefanie McCleish

2. What department do you teach in/ How long have you been teaching at BG? I teach in the English Department and I’ve been at BG for eight years.

3. Where did you go to high school? I went to high school at Victor J. Andrew in Tinley Park.

4. What part of teaching do you find the most rewarding? I love sharing my passions of writing, reading, and journalism with my students. There are very few careers out there that allow you to truly do what you love each day. I feel very lucky in that regard.  My recent passion project has been to build a classroom library of diverse books. It has been so amazing to see my students really fall back in love with reading.

5. What is something unique about you? I LOVE to party plan and craft!  Give me a theme and I will use every pun in the book to make it come to life.  I have done so many different themes for my kid’s birthdays including sharks, bumble bees, two-ti-fruity, etc.  If I wasn’t an educator I would love to be a party planner.

6. What are you currently reading, and/or do you have a favorite author or podcast?   I ALWAYS have at least five books stacked up on my nightstand. My favorite genre is mystery/thriller like One of Us is Lying, Sadie, and We Were Liars,  however, my favorite books from this past year include Margaret Atwood’s sequel to The Handmaid’s Tale, Testaments and I'll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson.  Next up in my stack is a book recommended to me by a student called The Grace Year by Kim Liggett.

 7. What activities or clubs do you coach/ sponsor? I am the adviser for The Charger student newspaper.

Buffalo Grove squeaks past Grayslake Central
The Daily Herald, November 25, 2019
Shooters shoot. That's what they do. Even when they're 4-for-14. That was the line for Buffalo Grove sophomore guard Kam Craft through three quarters in the Bison's season opener against Grayslake Central on Monday. "I shot terrible today," said the 6-foot-5 Craft, who averaged more than 20 points per game last year as a freshman. "I've always been a shooter. I don't care how many I miss. I'm going to shoot the next one that's open. That's my mentality." Read Story

Buffalo Grove holds off Grayslake Central
The Daily Herald, November 30, 2019
Playing its final game against Grayslake Central in its own Bison Classic, Buffalo Grove's girls basketball team showed its composure when it counted. Megan Fontanetta's second 3-pointer in the fourth quarter tied the game at 49-49 with under four minutes left. Read Story

Joe Henricksen’s preseason Top 85 Chicago-area high school basketball teams
Chicago Sun Times, November 24, 2019
31. Buffalo Grove  Don’t be surprised if this team climbs the rankings. The Bison can shoot the basketball and have a lot of individual talent returning. Nate Cole, a 6-4 senior who averaged 13 points a game last year, provides a veteran presence, while 6-5 sophomore Kam Craft is back after a breakout freshman season where he averaged 20.3 points and 6.4 rebounds a game. When you add point guard Tyler Kipley and shooter Matt Brunelli to the mix, you’re talking arguably the best team in the Mid-Suburban League. Read Story

The young singers performed holiday carols at stores, restaurants and elsewhere around town to help launch the yearly celebration, which this year runs every weekend through Dec. 22. Read Story
