Friday Focus -  National Merit Scholars Announced

Thirteen BGHS students are among the 34,000 National Merit Commended Students in the nation: Gabrielle Arland, Deyana Atanasova, Evan Cochrane, Olivia Cortopassi, Ryan Fulmer, Brian Furman, Saru Garg, Emma Hartnett, Tyler Lubbat, Scott Mahon, Eduardo Morelli, Matthew Rivard, and Julianne Roser.  These students placed in the top five percent of the more than 1.6 million students who took the 2016 PSAT/NMSQT.  These students "show outstanding potential for academic success" in educational opportunities beyond high school and are "a valuable national resource," according to a spokesperson for NSMC.

Additionally, Jaseena Syed has been named a National Merit Semifinalist, placing her among the top 16,000 students in the nation and in the top one-half percent of students in Illinois.

These students will be recognized at a National Merit Recognition Breakfast at Buffalo Grove High School in late October.  Students will be invited to bring a teacher who has had a significant impact on their academic career while at BGHS to share in the recognition.

District 214 is pleased to announce the first ever Educator Prep Higher Education Partner Night, an evening in which our students and parents will have the opportunity to engage with D214 staff and representatives from NEIU, NLU, and other program partners around Educator Prep.

The event will take place at Forest View Educational Center on Thursday, October 5 from 7-8:30pm, beginning in the North Gym.  It will consist of a set of presentations, student panels, and breakout sessions.  The vision for the evening is that students and families who attend will be able to leave with a deep understanding of the opportunities made available to them at the secondary and post-secondary levels throughout Educator Prep and be able to make informed decisions as to their post-secondary options.
