Friday Focus: Virtual College and Career Ready! Night
On Wednesday, October 18, 2023, District 214’s Center for Career Discovery will host its virtual College and Career Ready! Night. Current and future District 214 students and their families are invited to learn about Career Pathway opportunities, how to earn early college credit and how to participate in work-based learning experiences like internships and apprenticeships. We have 39 different career fields for students to explore! We will be facilitating live panel discussions with industry professionals, university and college partners, and D214 faculty, students and staff around the District 214 Career Pathways. The website will be updated closer to the event date with a detailed schedule and Zoom links for the live panel sessions. Registration is not required. We look forward to seeing you!

Congratulations to IHSA Regional Champion, Connor Woodin! Connor carded a 5 under par 65 with 5 birdies and an impressive eagle on 15. Connor is the first player in school history to win an MSL Conference Tournament and a Regional in the same season! Good luck at Sectionals! Fight on!
Congratulations IHSA Regional Champion, Courtney Beerheide! Courtney shot a 69 (-2) at Regionals and is also the MSL Conference Champion! This is her 6th out right individual title and she tied for medalist honor in the other 7.
Congratulations to the Girls Golf team on qualifying for Sectionals by finishing 3rd at Regionals with their season best score!

Staff Spotlight - Rachel McNamara
What is your name? Rachel McNamara
What department do you teach in/ How long have you been teaching at BG? I teach Culinary classes in the department of Career Technical Education. This is my first year teaching at BG!
Where did you go to high school/ college? I attended high school at Crystal Lake South High School. Additionally, I received my bachelors at Illinois State University.
What part of teaching do you find the most rewarding? Although there are many rewarding aspects of teaching, one of my favorites is witnessing/ assisting students in reaching their goals. To see their look of achievement is absolutely priceless!
What’s a bucket list item for you? Visiting over 15 different countries across the world. I'm currently 4 countries down.
What are you currently reading, and/ or do you have a favorite author or podcast? I love any Colleen Hoover book! I've read the majority of her books.
What activities or clubs do you coach/ sponsor? To start my career here at BGHS, I've taken on the position of being the director of concessions. I've had so many wonderful opportunities to meet and work with many students and staff during our sporting events!
What is something unique about you? I love to hike! My longest hike thus far has been 8 hours up a mountain in Utah. Coming down goes much faster :)

Major Field Renovations Planned For Buffalo Grove High School

Associate Supt. of Administrative Services Chris Uhle presented the Township High School Dist. 214 Board of Education with a three-year master plan for the renovation of the Buffalo Grove High School’s sports fields. Each year (2024, 2025, and 2026) is broken down into a phase to allocate the work. “We wanted to create a signature feel to that campus,” said Uhle. “The North Shelf (the varsity softball field and the 12 tennis courts alongside the multi-turf field) is phase one. We weren’t maximizing our space. As is, the current varsity softball field is so far east and provides a logistical issue with our parents getting to that field. The 12 tennis courts and auxiliary turf field will not only maximize athletics and activities but will be utilized from 8 to 3 every day when it’s dry and the weather permits P.E. classes.” Read Story
