3.  How long have you been working at BGHS?   This is my 17th year at BGHS!

4.  Where did you go to high school?  I'm a graduate of the Knights of Prospect High School.

5.  What part of working at BG do you find the most rewarding?  The most rewarding part of teaching is building the relationship with students and working with them to help them be better students, problem solvers, and individuals.  While teaching math, I have the opportunity to challenge students to see them grow in their own independent learning and through their hard work.

6.  What is something unique about you?  I am a first-generation Asian-American, having immigrated from Vietnam when I was 5 years old.  In my free time, I enjoy working out and continue to practice on becoming a yoginist...hot yoga!  Namaste...

7.  What activities or clubs to do you coach/sponsor?   I no longer coach after having been a Math Team coach during my first 15 years, and the boys track sprint coach for six years (for both BG and Prospect).  But I am always working the clock for the boys and girls basketball games, and enjoy supporting the Bisons at the various sports, activities, and performances.

Friday Focus  -  The Harbor TV

On January 5th, we launched the first installment of a series of school culture videos and follow-up discussions in every classroom, with every student.  The following was read to all students, followed by the first video installment, which is also posted below for you to see.  As we continue this semester, I will link the new videos in this blog, with the hopes that follow-up conversations can continue at home.  We are truly partners in this endeavor to create a positive school culture for all students at Buffalo Grove.

This morning marks a significant time in the life of our school.  This morning we begin . . . The Harbor.  Many of your fellow students have brought this program to the attention of the administration and staff at Buffalo Grove High School, and today, we are excited to bring this to the entire student body as the first of several installments this semester.

The goal of The Harbor is simple: to create an environment here at Buffalo Grove that advocates for and fosters an environment where each and every student will feel safe, will understand their significance in the life of our school, and provide strength to stand up for fellow students at your school when their significance and safety are at risk.  These three, . . . a safe environment, a place for significance, and strength as a family, . . . are the foundation of a school environment that we all desire to be a part of.  It is what can define us as we pursue a collective OneBG.

This can and will happen with your help and support.  As you watch these videos, and discuss them within the environment of a classroom and teacher that you are familiar with, I hope you will embrace these messages as a way to begin a BG that is known for acceptance, empathy, and support for each ONE that is a part of our school family.

And now your teacher will show you the first video entitled "Judgement", followed by a class discussion about the topic. Enjoy Harbor TV.  Let’s use this opportunity to make a difference in our school.
