 Friday Focus:  

This week our talented BGHS choirs and alumni presented their Choral Extravaganza "Frozen Concert ~ VIRTUAL EDITION".  The performance featured solos, duets, virtual choirs, and a special performance by many of our amazing BG Choir Alumni. 1.What is your name? Matthew Livas 


2. What department do you teach in/ How long have you been teaching at BG?  I teach in the Social Sciences department and this is year number 9 for me here at BGHS


3. Where did you go to high school? Vernon Hills High School


4. What part of teaching do you find the most rewarding? The time I get to actually spend in open conversation with my students and being able to share in the moments of realization they have when discovering something new about the world around them or themselves. 


5. What new thing have you learned this year teaching remotely? That maintaining a work/life balance while working from home is really difficult and the realization of how little I'm actually home during a typical school year. 




6. What are you currently reading, and/ or do you have a favorite author or podcast? I wouldn't say that I have a favorite author or podcast and I am currently re-reading one of my all-time favorite books; The Count of Monte Cristo  


7. What activities or clubs do you coach/ sponsor? I currently coach the sophomore girls volleyball team and am the assistant coach of the newly formed girls lacrosse program. 


8. What is something unique about you? I have been skydiving multiple times and love other adrenaline sports like rock-climbing as well!

 Friday Focus:  

23 BG Students Selected for ILMEA District 7

The state of Illinois is made up of 9 music districts, and District 214 is in District 7. Each District has a competition to showcase the best of the best musicians. This year, 23 BGHS musicians were selected as these top musicians. They were selected to be part of the Illinois Music Education Association (ILMEA) District 7 Band, Choir, Orchestra, and Vocal Jazz. Students will participate in a virtual event on November 21 which will feature a keynote speaker and masterclasses with a variety of professional musicians.


Congratulations to our ILMEA All-District students: for band, Daphne Anderson, Matt Hamilton, Jenna Kosnoff, and Carina Obrecht; for orchestra, Tyler Lieu, Sydney Paunan, Spencer Sadler, and Harmony Sosa; for Choir, Christine Cabrera, David Gonzalez, Sean Marshall, Charlie Morrison, Isaly Olaguez, Ruth Ramos, Sam Simon, and Holden Wheeler; and for Vocal Jazz, Christine Cabrera, David Gonzalez, Jane Krivosheev, Charlie Morrison, Isaly Olaguez, Ruth Ramos, and Adam Shane.


The Bison Impact:  

  • Congratulations to the BG Model UN team who competed at SIMUN this week. Congrats to Ari Duvel who won Best Delegate for her portrayal of Black Panther on the Marvel Avengers Committee and to Holden Wheeler for winning Honorable Mention. 

  • Congratulations to Alyssa Weede who will be playing soccer at the next level as a member of University of Illinois soccer team next year.

  • Congratulations to Sophie Veytsman who will be playing soccer for Illinois State University next year.

  • Congratulations to Quinlan Libit who will be playing soccer at NIU in 2021-22.

  • Congratulations to Tristan Figus who will be continuing his baseball career next year at Illinois Wesleyan University.

  • Congrats as well to Shannon Coglianese who will play volleyball at Gannon University in 2020-21.

  • Congratulations to Hannah Arbitman who will be continuing her volleyball career at North Central College next year.

  • Congrats to Jenna Gayhart who will be continuing her softball career at Wisconsin Lutheran College in 2020-21.

Staff Spotlight

1. What is your name? Bob Fitzgerald 


2. What department have you/ do you work in?   I work in Security.


3. How long have you been working at BG?  I’ve been at BG for almost seven years. 


4. Where did you go to high school? I went to Notre Dame High School in Niles.


5. What part of working at BG do you find the most rewarding? Talking with and helping the kids in school. It's great watching them grow as freshman through senior year. 


6. What are you currently reading, and/ or do you have a favorite author or podcast?  I am currently reading Blood Covenant by Michael Franzese. He quit the NY mob and lived to tell, thanks to his wife and his faith.


7. What is something unique about you? I have always found it beneficial to get along with everyone. Less stress and makes life easier. 


8.   What activities at BG do you follow? Football and basketball.
