Principal Wardle's Weekly Blog 02/26/2016


Friday Focus  -   Students in Project Lead the Way, our engineering career pathway, tested their buoyancy products in the pool today. It was exciting to watch how far each group was able to stay dry!  
Project Lead The Way has several offerings in the area of engineering, including courses on Introduction to Engineering and Design, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Integrated Manufacturing, Principles of Engineering, and Civil Engineering and Architecture.

Attention seniors: Applications for this year's BGPA scholarships are now available in the College & Career Center. All applications are due no later than Friday, April 1, 2016.

Celebrating Our Success!

BG Orchesis is one of eleven schools chosen to perform in our Illinois High School Student Showcase at Lyons Township on April 30. The Audition in front of Chicago area Professional Judges was this past weekend.  The dance entitled Diverging Paths is choreographed by senior Annee Welbel.  This is quite an honor.  So Proud of BG Orchesis and 214 Dancers!!!!!


Congratulations to Jack Delattre on his 22nd place finish in State in Diving! This is his second time competing at state in his three year career!

Congratulations to BG parent volunteers, Jeanne and Dave Cleary, recipients of the 2016 District 214 Distinguished Service Award. Jeanne and Dave have worked as Bison Booster President for the past two years of their decade long service to Buffalo Grove High School.  Jeanne and Dave are always willing to go above and beyond in all circumstances for the betterment of our Bison, creating a culture of community and Bison pride. We are honored to recognize the Clearys for their dedication and service.

Lots of love for Arlington Heights Hearts of Gold winners
The Daily Herald, February 20, 2016
Several  were recognized Saturday night at the village's 18th annual ceremony that honors residents and business leaders in 11 categories for their commitment to the community. Hersey High School math teacher Jackie Ballarini won the Educator Heart of Gold. Buffalo Grove High School junior Danielle Allaire received the Young Champion Heart of Gold. Read story

1.What is your name?  Karen Roberts

2. What department do you teach in/ what courses do you teach? I teach in the CTE division and currently teach Introduction to Business and Entrepreneurship.  In the past, I have taught Personal Finance, Sports & Entertainment Marketing, Business Management, College Business, Information Processing, Computer Applications, and Introduction to Computers.

3. How long have you been teaching at BG? This is my 16th year at BG, and my 21st year of teaching.

4. Where did you go to high school? I went to Hersey High School.

5. What part of teaching do you find the most rewarding? Building positive relationships with my students and experiencing all the "a-ha" moments with them.  

6. What is something unique about you? I started playing softball when I was 10 and there hasn't been a season that I have not played since (from park district, to travel, to high school, to college & throughout my adult life).  My current team consists of some of my teammates from Hersey High School---yes we were MSL Conference Champs back then! :)

7. What activities or clubs do you coach/ sponsor? Currently, I am a DECA Business Club Sponsor.  During my time at BG, I have coached volleyball and served as a Class Sponsor for a number of years.

Congratulations to the Girls Bowling Team that competes today and tomorrow at the state competition in Rockford, IL.  State qualifiers include Jessica Soskich, Rebecca Herrera, Jennifer Sauer, Kaitlin Howard, Joanne Savage, Emilee Gonzalez, and Riley Donahue.  Congrats Coach Tripam and Coach VanGrondelle!  Good Luck!  #OneBG

BG BISON BOOSTERS Present LAS VEGAS NIGHT
The Bison Boosters are hosting their annual Las Vegas Night to be held on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at the Fox and Hound, 910 West Dundee Road.  Doors open at 7:00pm and you must be 21 to attend.  Tickets include 3 hours of gaming, appetizers and awesome silent auction and raffle prizes.  Last year's event was sold out so get your tickets today at www.seatyourself.biz/buffalogrove and help support the 28 athletic programs of Buffalo Grove High School. Fight On!

Girls basketball Regional Champs.jpgCongratulations to the Varsity Girls Basketball team on winning their 3rd straight Regional Championship!  Cheer them on as they move on to sectionals at Stevenson High School on Tuesday.
 

Varsity Girls Basketball player, Sammy Stejskal, became the 14th player in BG history to score 1000 points! Fight On Sammy!

On Saturday, the BG WYSE team competed at the College of Lake County Regional.  Top finishers were:

Erika Jaszka - 3rd place in Engineering Graphics
Michael Sokolowski - 3rd place in Biology
Alex Morain - 2nd place in Engineering Graphics and
Rhyan Shanker - Regional Chemistry Champion.
Congrats WYSE guys!

Buffalo Grove grad earned perfect score on AP Microeconomics exam
Patch, February 2, 2016
Buffalo Grove High School graduate Selena Groh earned a perfect score on her Advanced Placement (AP) Microeconomics exam last spring. Groh was one of only 54 of students in the world to earn every point possible on the AP exam - a rare feat.

Sammy Stejskal plays multiple roles at Buffalo Grove

Sammy Stejskal started her high school career by playing multiple sports.  So, near the end of her senior season, the Buffalo Grove standout has naturally learned to play numerous positions on the basketball court.  A former three-sport athlete, Stejskal gave up softball and soccer to concentrate on basketball for the past two seasons. After the Bison lost some key players from last season's 22-11 squad, Buffalo Grove coach Steve Kolodziej asked Stejskal to expand her role and help out at numerous spots on the floor.  Read Story

Stejskal reaches 1,000 points as Buffalo Grove ousts Grayslake Central

On a night her teammates sank 14 3-pointers, Sammy Stejskal notched a big number herself. Needing 8 points Tuesday to reach 1,000 for her career, Stejskal hit the number exactly, as Buffalo Grove's girls basketball team opened the state tournament with a 67-47 win over Grayslake Central in a semifinal of the Class 4A Lake Zurich regional. 1.What is your name?  Tom Mroz

2. What department do you teach in/ what courses do you teach?  I teach within the CTE Division and currently teach Honors College Accounting, Mobile App Development (iOS), and AP Computer Science A (Java.)  In the past I have taught Honors College Business, Business Law I & II, Business Management, Introduction to Business, Personal Finance, Computer Programming I and II, Web Programming, Information Processing and Computer Applications.

3. How long have you been teaching at BG? 16 years.

4. Where did you go to high school? St. Viator High School (shout out to Mr. Brooks who graduated with me -- GO LIONS!)

5. What part of teaching do you find the most rewarding? Seeing students achieve their goals.  Whether it's in code designing their own app to solve a need or a swimmer dropping time in their event, seeing students push and excel beyond their comfort zone is always just awesome! FIGHT ON!

6. What is something unique about you? A little known hobby I have --Model Railroading.  Over the years, I have been working on constructing a lionel O gauge layout in my basement that spans about 87 feet.

7. What activities or clubs do you coach/ sponsor? I am currently the Head Coach for Girls' Swimming and Diving and a Freshmen Adviser. In the past I've been the Head Coach Boys Water Polo, Head Coach Girls Water Polo, Assistant Coach for Boys Swimming and Diving,  and Assistant Coach for the Bass Fishing Team.
