Staff Spotlight

What is your name? Christian Wollard

What department have you/ do you work in? Security/Campus Safety

How long have you been working at BG? Since November, 2020

Where did you go to high school? Our very own Buffalo Grove High School

What part of working at BG do you find the most rewarding? I enjoy working with both the students and staff, as well as an amazing group of department team members. Not a day goes by when we don't make each other laugh. Everyone has been very welcoming since the day I started.

What are you currently reading, and/ or do you have a favorite author or podcast?  I'm an active listener of a variety of podcasts. Most are focused on current events, politics and news. One of my favorites is Dan Bongino - former Secret Service Agent and member of NYPD.

What is something unique about you? I'm a big fan of the Heavy Metal music genre.  In a normal, non-covid impacted year, I usually attend nearly three dozen concerts and other live performances.  While possessing zero musical talent, I'm still a big music fan.

What activities or clubs do you coach/ sponsor? What activities at BG do you follow?  After years of coaching youth baseball and football, I was invited to join the staff at Lake Zurich High School as an Assistant Football Coach in 2015.  I've been coaching there ever since. Since I'm relatively new here at BGHS, I'm still familiarizing myself with the many clubs and activities available to the students.  I've been able to help support a variety of activities by contributing to fundraising efforts and volunteering to work at special events

Staff Spotlight

What is your name? Laura Tomeczko

What department do you teach in/ How long have you been teaching at BG?  I teach in the science department here at BG as a CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) Instructor. This is my first year at BG.

Where did you go to high school? Lyons Township High School

What part of teaching do you find the most rewarding?  The part of teaching I find most rewarding is providing students with the opportunity to have hands-on experience in a lab setting while watching their confidence grow as they demonstrate competence in a clinical setting.

What new thing have you learned this year as a teacher?  One thing I learned this year is how to navigate Schoology and classroom technology. As a nurse for the last 16 years my exposure to technology was mostly documenting.

What are you currently reading, and/ or do you have a favorite author or podcast?  To be honest, my current reading revolves around the latest book my 3rd and 6th graders are reading.

What activities or clubs do you coach/ sponsor?  I am currently a sponsor of Scrubs Club at PHS and Discover Healthcare at BG. In January I will be starting 10 hour clinical days with my students on either a Saturday or Sunday for the next few months.

What is something unique about you? One thing that is unique and surprises most people about me is that I truly love being organized and having a plan. However, when it comes to travel all of this is thrown out the window. The last few years my family has traveled by picking a destination without having one single plan set. This includes hotels, stops, etc. The only thing set is whether we will be driving or flying. So far this has worked out for us with a minimal level of stress. Attached is a picture of one of these adventures to Page, Arizona! Absolutely beautiful!
