Meet the new Division Heads for Student Success, Safety & Wellness
Earlier this semester, we were thrilled to have Spanish teacher Danielle Ossman step into a new role as interim Division Head for Student Success, Safety and Wellness (formerly known as the “Deans”). Ms. Ossman has taught all Spanish levels through AP Spanish at BGHS for 6 years, and has taught in District 214 since 2010. This week, we welcome Justin Penio to the team as our second Division Head for Student Success, Safety and Wellness. Mr. Penio comes to us from Elk Grove High School, where he has served as their Division Head for Student Success, Safety and Wellness for six years. Prior to that, he spent three years as a Dean at Hersey High School, after five years at Hersey teaching special education, case managing, and co-teaching in several departments. Ms. Ossman and Mr. Penio make a great team and will serve the students of Buffalo Grove High School well.

Congratulations to Girls Cross Country runner Jenna Pullega on qualifying for Sectionals!
Congratulations to Varsity Football on defeating Hersey to share the MSL East Championship title with Prospect! The Bison take on Lincoln-Way West tomorrow night at 7:00 pm on our home field in the first round of the IHSA playoffs.
Congratulations to Swimmer Sarah Kenny on placing 6th at the MSL JV Conference! And 2nd in the 100 breaststroke!
Congratulations to Football player and CN100Sports Player of the Game, Trystan Anderson for his performance in last Friday’s game against Hersey!

BG Alumni Veterans & Active Duty Military
In honor of Veterans Day, Buffalo Grove High School will be displaying a scrolling collage of military personnel who are connected to BGHS. We would love to honor BG alumni by including them in this collage. If you have a former BG student in your family who is currently serving, or formerly served, in the military please complete this google form. A picture of the alumni along with their name and service information will be included in the collage that will scroll throughout the day on the TV screens located in the common areas of Buffalo Grove High School. Please submit the google form by Friday, November 5th.

What is your name? Shannon Niemi
What department do you work in/ How long have you been working at BG? I work in Student Services as the Certified School Nurse. This is my first year working at BG.
Where did you go to high school? Buffalo Grove, Go Bison!
What part of being a nurse do you find the most rewarding? Having students' school experience improved when a health related barrier is reduced, such as getting glasses after doing a vision screening, is extremely rewarding.
What new thing have you learned this year as a nurse? I am always learning the most up to date guidance from IDPH
What are you currently reading, and/ or do you have a favorite author or podcast? Reading: "Ask Again, Yes", and always "The School Nurse's Source Book of Individualized Healthcare Plans"
What activities or clubs do you coach/ sponsor? None
What is something unique about you? My family and I are trying to travel to all 50 states!

BGHS Fall 2021 College & Military Rep Visits
BGHS will be hosting college and military reps both in person and virtually. All rep visits, even the virtual visits, will be held in the College and Career Center (room G153). Please pick up a pass in the College and Career Center to attend any of these rep visits.

Buffalo Grove nips Hersey to tie for MSL East title

The similarities were striking heading into the final game of the regular season. Both Hersey and Buffalo Grove came into Friday night's contest at Grant Blaney Stadium with 7-1 overall records, 3-1 in the Mid-Suburban East; each team had suffered their only loss of the season in heartbreaking fashion to Prospect; and both squads knew that there was a possibility to share the division championship if the Knights lost.
Softball: Buffalo Grove's Craig headed to Oklahoma State

Marc and Janice Craig knew their daughter was an outgoing young girl and with a bunch of energy. So when she was around 5 years old, they had Angelina Craig playing in the Arlington Heights Youth Athletic Association softball program. About the same time, they bought her a 'toy' called 'Batter Batter Baseball'. From that point on, all Angelina would do is get better and better. So much better, that today the Buffalo Grove student is headed to play softball for one of the premier collegiate programs in the nation. Read Story
