Panelists include Jim Slusher, deputy managing editor for the opinion section at the Daily Herald; Natasha Korecki, senior reporter for POLITICO and author of Illinois Playbook; Bob Secter, director of investigations for the Better Government Association; and Constance Mixon, an associate professor of political science at Elmhurst College. A Passion To Dance:  15-Year-Old Promoted To Apprentice Of ‘Ensemble Espanol’
Journal-Topics, September 28, 2017
Samantha Micklewright was only 6 when she stepped into her mother’s dance shoes. She was already familiar with ballet and tap, but it was her mother’s interest in flamenco that led her to take classes when she was 7. At age 11, the Arlington Heights resident was accepted into — and received a full training scholarship for — the grade school division of Ensemble Espanol Spanish Dance Theater at Northeastern Illinois University. Founded in 1976 by Dame Libby Komaiko, the company is comprised by 40 dancers, singers, musicians and guest artists from Spain and the U.S. and is currently overseen by Artistic Director Irma Suarez Ruiz and Executive Director Jorge Perez.  Read Story

5. What part of working at BG do you find the most rewarding?  The most rewarding part of teaching is watching a student have an aha moment in their understanding of a math concept.  I enjoy seeing the pride on a student's face when they accomplish something they once saw as insurmountable.
6. What is something unique about you?  I biked across Missouri on Katy Trail with a group from my church.  It took us 4 days to bike 237 miles on the crushed limestone "rails to trails" path.  We spent the night at a hostel and churches along the trail which made this an unforgettable adventure.
