Friday Focus -   On being Thankful
As part of our Harbor/ OneBG campaign, we focused on Gratitude these past few weeks, with each student working with their peers to create a Thankful Turkey for Thanksgiving.  I am personally thankful for our incredible students and families at BGHS, and am inspired everyday in my conversations with so many of you.  

Celebrating Our Success!
  • Congratulations to our Varsity Wrestlers on their decisive 42-29 win over Rolling Meadows this week!
  • Congratulations to our Varsity Football Head Coach, Jeff Vlk, the Chicago Bears Coach of the Week!
  • Congratulations to Varsity Football players  Justin Gold, Sean Jacobs, Max Merriott, and Tom Trieb named to the Northwest All-Area team. Congratulations, as well, to Connor Adams, Ryan Mueller, Matt Prawica, and Zach Sheasby who received Honorable Mention.
  • Congrats to Girls Basketball player, Kendra Lee, on earning Player of the Game at the Chicagoland Showcase last Saturday at Fremd High School.
  • Congrats to Varsity Boys Swimming on kicking off their season with a 98-88 win over Conant. Shout out to the Frosh/Soph team for their 110-67, as well!
  • Congrats to the Girls Gymnastics Team for taking first in all 3 levels Tuesday vs. Weeling. Varsity 126.35 - 115.25, JV 86.15 - 38.7, Frosh 80.0 - 40.
  • Congratulations to our Competitive Spirit Team Seniors celebrating Senior Night this week.
  • Congrats to our Senior Bisonettes also celebrating Senior Night this week.
  • Congrats to our BG Bowlers on their 27-0 win over Palatine Wednesday. The Bison won on all three levels. Rebecca Howard shoots a pair of 230's to lead the way. JV bowlers shoot their high series of their careers!  Great job by all! Fight On Bison Bowlers!

Buffalo Grove to perform musical storytelling of 'Polar Express'

The Buffalo Grove High School Music Department will present the first Winter Celebration, which features a musical storytelling of "The Polar Express." On Saturday, Dec. 16, and Sunday, Dec. 17, the gymnasium will become a concert venue as audience members join together to hear the classic story told through word and sound. Buffalo Grove students mourn teachers' deaths through music

When Emily Bondarenko first played through her piano part in her high school chamber orchestra’s newest piece, the jagged melody and chaotic measures did not seem to go together at all. “It made no sense whatsoever,” said Bondarenko, a junior at Buffalo Grove High School who landed the coveted seat in the orchestra after a decade of piano lessons and persistent practice. “It sounded like the ugliest piece in the world.” But a few days later, when Bondarenko joined the full chamber orchestra for its first rehearsal of the piece called “Solaces,” the seemingly disconnected parts masterfully blended into a moving, turbulent composition. The piece came together just as it was intended by its composer, who wrote it to help the school’s students and staff memorialize and mourn three teachers they had lost. Read Story

Reaching for the Heights presents: Buffalo Grove High School Chamber Orchestra

Jack Vaselaney scored 17 points and Tom Trieb had a season-best 16 to help Buffalo Grove boys basketball team get off to a winning start in Mid-Suburban East play.  The Bison, who also got 14 points from Mac Camardo, improved to 4-1 overall with a 66-46 victory over Rolling Meadows on Friday.  Read Story

Staff Spotlight

1. What is your name? Stefanie Ronge
2. What department have you/do you work in and what do you do?  I teach in the math/science department - two classes of general chemistry, two class of prep chemistry, and one physics class.

3. How long have you been working at BG? This is my first year at BG! I student taught here a few years ago so I am definitely happy to be back.

4. Where did you go to high school?  I went to Fenton High School - coincidentally Fenton's colors are also blue and orange and their mascot is also a Bison.
5. What part of working at BG do you find the most rewarding? Being able to see students grow and succeed is the BEST part about being a teacher hands down. My students are awesome and seeing them do awesome things always makes me happy.
6. What is something unique about you? As many of you saw at the Faculty Follies, I can rap all of Macklemore's "Can't Hold Us." Sports that I've played and continue to enjoy are soccer, swimming, and basketball. My favorite element is fluorine and I have a healthy obsession with my dog, Chief.

7. What activities or clubs do you follow? I currently am the sponsor for BG's Environmental Club. At my previous school, I helped coach girls soccer and would love to help out with that here at BG in the spring as well.

98 Students competed, 49 students brought home 95 medals at last week's district competition!


Celebrating Our Success!

  • Congratulations to junior trumpet player, Janelle Finton, on her selection to join the “best of the best” at the National Association for Music Education's 2017 All-National Honor Ensembles at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. (see the full story below under BGHS in the News)
  • Kudos to our very own Blue Crew who took time on Thanksgiving Day to deliver Meals on Wheels to homebound senior citizens.
  • Congratulations to Varsity Boys Basketball on their 2nd place win over Zion-Benton in the Bison Classic tournament!

Buffalo Grove student among best of the best in nation's music ensembles

Buffalo Grove High School student Janelle Finton will join the "best of the best" for the National Association for Music Education's 2017 All-National Honor Ensembles at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida.  The selection follows Finton's hard work throughout the 2016-17 school year, when she practiced with dedication to gain a chair in her local, district, and state music honor ensembles.  Read Story

Buffalo Grove runs to 2-0 by topping Glenbrook South

Buffalo Grove used a pair of 11-point runs to defeat Glenbrook South on Wednesday night at the Bison Classic.  The Bison won 55-49 to improve to 2-0 on the season, and it was their second straight 6-point win. BG defeated Grayslake Central 60-54 on Monday.  Read Story

Rotary connections aid teens' visit to Germany

Lauryn Lintner and Christina Ruterschmidt, both of Arlington Heights, captivated their audience with descriptions of their summer exchange trip taken with Buffalo Grove's German Club to Neu-Ulm, located in the Bavarian region of southern Germany. 1. What is your name? Dave Hanson
2. What department have you/do you work in and what do you do?  I work as the Day Master Custodian, but I can wear many hats.

3. How long have you been working at BG? I been here about 3 years. I have been with District 214 for 16 years.

4. Where did you go to high school?  I went to Garland High School in Garland, Arkansas.

5. What part of working at BG do you find the most rewarding? I find it rewarding when I can place a smile on someone’s face for going out of my way to help where needed

6. What is something unique about you? I treasure the friendships that I have made in the 16 years working with d214. It has given me gratification that I am so lucky to have them.  They have not only been my friends, they are my family.

7. What activities or clubs do you follow? I really enjoyed following football and their great season this fall. Basketball is just starting up and I’m enjoying following that, as well.
