Buffalo Grove handles Naperville Central
The Daily Herald, November 23, 2018
Buffalo Grove's boys basketball team likes to think it has bonded, and from the way it plays, you can tell that's true. Missed shot? No worries. Kam Craft, Nate Cole or Tom Trieb is there to clean it up. Opposition pressing? Hello Mike Nowakowski, polished point guard who can break a press as slickly as he can make his way to the basket. Or hit a key free throw down the stretch in the clutch. Read Story

Buffalo Grove Wins Thriller Over Grayslake Central
Journal & Topics, November 20, 2018
Buffalo Grove boys basketball won the season opener in the Bison Classic, 79-75, over Grayslake Central after an outstanding performance by freshman Kam Craft. The 6-4 freshman scored 31 points in his high school debut to lead all scorers. Craft scored at least 5 points in each quarter and dropped 12 points in the fourth quarter, showing the poise of a senior, not a new player, making his debut. Craft and Nate Cole (27 points, 4 3-pointers) combined for 58 points overall, but most importantly, 22 points in the fourth quarter. Read Story

Fontanetta's game-winner lifts Buffalo Grove over Barrington
The Daily Herald, November 15, 2018
Listed at 5-foot-3 in the program, Buffalo Grove junior Meghan Fontanetta was the smallest girl on the floor Thursday night. At the end, she had the biggest shot of all. With the score tied at 37 and 3.3 seconds left, Barrington had the ball out of bounds under the BG basket. Bison junior Kendra Lee swiped away the inbounds pass and it tipped off the hands of teammate Sydney Fortman right into the hands of Fontanetta.

Scouting the Mid-Suburban East
The Daily Herald, November 15, 20118
Outlook: Things might have been brighter for the Bison had one senior not sustained a broken hip in the second game of the football season. Trieb, an all-around basketball player, hopes to be playing in the latter stages of December. "With Trieb not playing it kind of changes what our rotation would be," said Buffalo Grove coach Keith Peterson, now at the helm for his sixth season. "The players are coming along. They are learning the different defenses that we'll show and what my expectations of them are." Read Story

The Daily Herald, November 15, 2018

Three have been two-year starters. "We're super excited about the potential this season," Kolodziej said. "We went through a lot of growing pains last season that should give us good experience and perspective for this season." Read Story

Boys soccer: Buffalo Grove's Eloiza has one up on family now
The Daily Herald, November 9, 2018
No boys soccer player has ever reached the level of absolute brilliance in the Northwest suburbs or, arguably, the state than Brian McBride. The 1989 Buffalo Grove grad achieved greatness at every level, first as an All-American at St. Louis University, then starring roles along the way with the U.S. National Team, Columbus Crew, and Fulham of the English Premier League before returning to finish out his career with the Chicago Fire. Kevin Eloiza will be the first to admit he's not to be compared to one of the best ever, but the Buffalo Grove senior does have one thing in common with McBride that he's proud to say he can share with the former Bison icon. That would be a Mid-Suburban League championship. Read Story

Buffalo Grove artists raise awareness of environmental issues through art
District 214 Blog, November 07, 2018
When student artists at Buffalo Grove High School chose to highlight environmental issues in the school’s student-run art gallery this year, they wanted the artwork to go beyond pointing to the world’s climate problems. They wanted the art to start a dialogue. And so, the artists are connecting with different student groups, such as the Environmental and Aquarium clubs, to collaborate further. They reached out to individuals in the school – from security guards to teachers and students – to incorporate their belongings in the first environmental show. They talked to their teachers and encouraged them to bring their classes to the One Grove Gallery to get involved in the conversation. Read Story

2. What department have you/do you work in? I’m the new Library Media Specialist.

3. How long have you been working at BG?  This is my first year at BG, but I have been working in education for 15 years: 9 years teaching in the English Department at Elk Grove HS, 2 years in suburban Philadelphia, and 5 years in Chicago Public Schools.

4. Where did you go to high school?  Mount St. Joseph Academy in suburban Philadelphia.

5. What part of teaching at BG do you find the most rewarding? I find it most rewarding when students get that spark, when they’ve realized they understand something or made a new connection or find that book or topic they enjoy the most.  It’s that kind of thing that will stick with them even outside the classroom walls.

6. What is something unique about you? My original major in college was Radio/TV/Film.  Because of this, in college I was a concert photographer and photographed bands like The Roots, A Perfect Circle, Sleater-Kinney, Robyn Hitchcock, and more at places like the UIC Pavilion and Metro.
