Friday Focus:  BGPA Scholarship Applications Now Available

Applications for the Buffalo grove Parent Association (BGPA) $1,000 scholarship are now available online on Naviance or a hard copy can be picked up in the College & Career Center through April 1, 2019. Any Class of 2019 graduating senior planning to attend a baccalaureate or technical program is eligible to apply. The scholarship value is $1,000 per selected applicant. The signed application with all of the attachments is due at the end of the school day on April 2, 2019. Applications submitted after April 2, 2019 will not be accepted. The scholarships will be distributed at the Principal’s Awards Ceremony on May 14, 2019.

  • Congratulations to our JV Cheerleading team on their 1st place win at their first competition of the season at Barrington!
  • Congratulations to our BG Varsity Bowlers on taking 3rd place at the Fremd 20 team invite!  Rebecca Howard lead the way for the Bison capturing 9th individually.
  • Wonderful performances by our Talented Fine Arts students at the Cabaret Night last Saturday!
  • Congratulations to Varsity Boys Basketball player, freshman Kam Craft, named the Daily Herald Player of the Week!
  • Congratulations to Speech Team members who medaled at the Hersey Tournament last weekend:  Drew Levitt, 6th place - Dramatic Interpretation; Brandon Puga and Phoebe Rusch, 3rd Place - Humorous Duet Acting; Zoey Heinrich and Allie Zyck tied for 1st place respectively - Informative Speaking; Kelly Duong, 3rd place - Original Oratory; and Nolan Son, 5th place - Radio Speaking. Allie Zyck also earned 2nd place - Impromptu Speaking.
  • Congratulations to our Bison JV Wrestlers with 157 pts to win the Big Sky Tournament last weekend! 63 pts ahead of 2nd place!
  • Congratulations to our Freshman Wrestlers on their performance at the Glenbard South Freshman Invitational  - 2 firsts, 3 seconds, and a 3rd place finish!
  • Congratulations to our Bison Boys Swimmers on the 3rd place finish at the Niles West Invite! Congratulations also go to Divers Ben Goldberg, Evan Nguyen and Emanuel Yalda who placed 1st, 2nd and 4th and the Niles West Invite!
  • Congrats to Gymnasts Olivia Tangorra and Leah Oyen, bar medalists at the Rolling Meadows Invite!

Buffalo Grove rolls past Schaumburg
The Daily Herald, December 3, 2018
The day after her softball season ended last spring, Buffalo Grove shortstop Jackie Bickhaus learned she played the last half of the basketball season and her whole softball campaign with a broken hand. She wore a cast all summer and now wears a Velcro wrist band which helps with compression and support. Read Story

Girls bowling: Scouting the Mid-Suburban League

In Mid-Suburban League East girls bowling this season, Buffalo Grove has only one senior (Maddie Schanke), but will return three players with varsity experience from last year. "We hope to be competitive throughout our season," said BG coach Chris Vangrondelle. "We look to gain experience and hone our skills and be more consistent as the year rolls on." Read Story

Outlook: Sobolak anchored the Bisons to a seventh - place finish in the MSL last season. Sobolak was slowed early in the season by a concussion but came on strong to qualify to the state meet on the bars. She will look to continue her momentum this season. Tangorra should also make an impact this season. Read Story

Buffalo Grove pulls away from Elk Grove

Buffalo Grove's boys basketball team showed Friday night that it is ready to handle any defense and play at any pace. The Bison found their way against Elk Grove's sticky zone and got clutch performances from their upperclass veterans in a 59-46 Mid-Suburban East opening win on the Grenadiers' court. Read Story

Buffalo Grove High School's musical tells story of 'The Grinch'

The Buffalo Grove High School Music Department will present the second annual Winter Celebration, a musical storytelling of the beloved children's classic, "The Grinch," on Sunday, Dec. 9, at the school, 1100 W. Dundee Road, Buffalo Grove. The concert, which begins at 4 p.m., will feature the combined bands, combined choirs, and the Buffalo Grove High School full orchestras. Music selections include popular pieces from the story such as "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch," as well as selections that aid in telling the story such as "Minor Alterations" and "Tintinnabulations" and of course Leroy Anderson's classic "Sleigh Ride." All-Area Football Team, Northwest

Connor Adams, Buffalo Grove: With the Bison struggling with key injuries, Adams stepped up this season to throw for 1,148 yards and 9 touchdowns while leading his team to its second consecutive playoff appearance, "Although his stats did not match up to what they were last year, Connor was the one who kept us afloat", Buffalo Grove coach Jeff Vlk said." I am not sure of any other quarterback in the area that could lose seven starters from their side of the ball, still make the playoffs and come within one point of beating an undefeated Rockton Hononegah team on the road."
Sean Jacobs, Buffalo GroveThe Buffalo Grove defense has been a better place since Jacobs stepped on the field for the Bison three years ago. "He has been the best linebacker I have ever coached, " said Buffalo Grove head coach Jeff Vlk, who is in his third year as head coach, but spent the previous 15 seasons running the defense. "He was the leader of our defense and has a motor like nothing I have ever seen. He is 100 miles an hour from start to finish each and every day." Jacobs will finish his career as the second-leading tackler in school history. Read Story

Staff Spotlight

1. What is your name?  Sue Marvin

2. What department have you/do you work in? I work in the College Career Center in Student Services as the College Career Assistant.

3. How long have you been working at BG?  This is my first year at BG.

4. Where did you go to high school? Prospect High School.

5. What part of working at BG do you find the most rewarding?  I am really enjoying getting to know the students as they apply to colleges and prepare for the next chapters of their lives beyond BGHS.

6. What is something unique about you? I have been a dog lover since childhood, but didn’t get my first dog until I became an adult.  I made up for lost time, though, because my family currently has 3 beagles.

7. What activities or clubs do you coach/ sponsor?  I am on the Theater Jury and love attending musical and theater performances.
