Students, alumni of Buffalo Grove Expressions show choir take final curtain call
Chicago Tribune, May 15, 2017
When Buffalo Grove High School freshman Ryan Eriksen decided to join the school's well-known show choir, Expressions, at the start of the school year, he did so reluctantly. He said his friend, fellow freshman Jon Olbur, kept nagging him to check out a rehearsal for Expressions, which included many girls but needed more guys. "I finally said I'd do it — just to shut him up," Eriksen recalled. Now, as the final curtain closes on the entire show choir, Eriksen said he wishes he had more time to perform with the award-winning group.  Read Story

Buffalo Grove fisher plays the angles, wins national recognition
Lake County Gazette, May 19, 2017
Tyler Lubbat has learned to go with the flow when he goes fishing.  “If you have a closed mindset, you won't catch them," the Buffalo Grove High School junior told the Lake County Gazette recently. "So I think it's the sheer difficulty of adjusting every single day to catch fish that more times than not, leave you stumped."  Lubbat has conquered the challenges so well that he has been reaping honors for his angling. He recently was named to the Bassmaster High School All-American Fishing Team.  Read Story

2. What department have you/ do you work in and what do you teach?  Math/Science Department

Courses:
Honors Chemistry
General Chemistry
Underwater Basket Weaving

The Meaning of Life

3. How long have you been working at BG?
This is my 15th year in the building, but my 14th as a full time staff member.  I student taught at BG in the Fall of 2002 under the illustrious leadership and dynamic tutelage of Mr. Brian Vander Ark.
4. Where did you go to high school?
1998 graduate of Schaumburg HS... Fight on Saxons! 2002 graduate of Monmouth College... home of the Fighting Scots... where real men wear kilts!
5. What part of working at BG do you find the most rewarding?
Developing a connection with my students on a higher level than just imparting curricular knowledge.  I really enjoy being able to find time in my lessons to talk about and explore some of the intangibles associated with being a teacher.  My most rewarding moments have not centered around chemistry or physics, but around the relationships that I have had with classes as a whole or with individual students.

6. What is something unique about you?
I am an Aquarius ;-)
I am terribly color blind and my students make fun of me all the time when I get mixed up. I am always singing and generally just making noise around the building... ask anyone!

7. What activities or clubs do you coach/ sponsor?
I have been coaching football at BG for 11 years.  I love announcing and working the scorer's table for volleyball matches and basketball games and running the high jump pit for track meets.  I have been a member of the Social Norms committee at BG for the past 5 years.  Other than that I just love attending all types of co-curricular events and showing support for all of the students who find time in their schedules to compete in sports and participate in clubs and activities.  Go Bison!
