Friday Focus - Chess Team and Co-Ed Cheerleaders Headed to State
Congratulations to our Chess Team who qualified for the IHSA State Final Chess tournament in Peoria. We also congratulate, for the 8th straight year, our BG Varsity Coed Cheerleading team as they head off to the IHSA State Finals in Bloomington!


Celebrating Our Success!
  • Congratulations to Boys Gymnastics Coach Zack Crandall on being named the Illinois State Gymnastics Coach of the Year by the NFHS!
  • Congratulations to our Co-ed Cheerleading team on be crowned Sectional Champions! They will be competing at State this weekend for the 8th straight year!
  • Congratulations to our Chess Team that will be competing at State on February 8, 9, and 10th. Special recognition to freshman, Aleks Elifirenko, for placing 3rd at Sectionals!
  • Congrats to our Boys Swimming & Diving Seniors celebrating Senior Night!
  • Congrats to our Bowling Seniors and retiring Coach, Jean Tripam!
  • Celebrating our Orchesis dancers that participated in the Giordano Project.
  • We are so proud of all DECA members!! We had 99 students compete, 64 students medaled, and 34 students placed in top 3 overall! 34 DECA members headed to State!
  • Congrats to the Girls Gymnastics team members that qualified to compete at Regionals Kara Tyner, Emily Ruby, Hannah Lim, Dagmara Sobolak, Madison Morelli, and Hannah Greenspan!  Congrats to Regional Balance Beam Medalist Dagmara Sobolak!
  • Congrats to the Varsity Wrestling MatRats on finishing 7th at Conference!
  • Congratulations to the Varsity Bowling team that finished 3rd at Conference! Congrats to Rebecca Howard and Riley Donahue Conference Medalists!

Bison Pride Band Mattress Fundraiser TOMORROW!
The band is holding BG’s first ever mattress fundraiser tomorrow. If you need a mattress or if you have one that could be replaced, please come out Saturday, February 3rd to see us in the cafeteria between 10:00 am and 5:00 pm. Every purchase benefits the Bison Pride Band!

Daddy-Daughter Dance
Buffalo Grove High School’s 2020 Class Board will sponsor its annual Daddy-Daughter Dance for the high school attendance area’s K-6th grade girls and their fathers. Proceeds will help fund Prom and Senior Day. Dads and their daughters will enjoy a semi-formal evening full of music and dancing, as well as games, crafts, a photo booth, refreshments and more. The Bison Boosters are hosting their annual Las Vegas Night on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Ditka's, 2000 West Euclid Avenue, Arlington Heights at 7:00pm. Suburban students, parents come together over shared passion for STEM in Arlington Heights

Ready for some winter fun? Buffalo Grove and Prospect high schools will host Daddy Daughter Dances in February. Area girls and their dads/father figures are invited to attend Prospect's 19th annual Daddy-Daughter Dance from 7 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 3. This popular fundraiser is held in Prospect's field house at 801 W. Kensington Road, in Mount Prospect, and it is hosted by Prospect's Choral Department. The event is geared toward girls ages 3 through middle school.  Read Story

BGHW hockey dominant in preparation for run through state playoffs

Learning To Fly: Buffalo Grove’s Mayhorn Charts Future Course

Buffalo Grove senior guard Caleb Mayhorn isn’t the top scorer or rebounder for the Bison, but he can fly higher than probably any other high school basketball player in the state. Mayhorn, of Wheeling, has something very few high school students, let alone athletes, have: a pilot’s license. After starting the process at the end of his sophomore year, he officially got his license in August 2017 at Chicago Executive Airport right when he was beginning his senior year.  Read Story

Staff Spotlight

1. What is your name? Matthew Flanagan

2. What department have you/do you work in and what do you do? I work in the Custodial Maintenance Department

3. How long have you been working at BG? I started at BG in 2014. I’m in my 4th year, but this is my 27th year in District 214. I was previously at Elk Grove for 6 years, followed by 17 at Rolling Meadows.

4. Where did you go to high school? I went to Charles P. Steinmetz High School in Chicago, the same school that Hugh Hefner went to.
5. What part of working at BG do you find the most rewarding?  I enjoy the challenge of working on maintenance and coming up with new ideas and new ways of doing things in the maintenance department.

6. What is something unique about you? My sons and I enjoy jigsaw puzzles together.

7. What activities or clubs do you follow?  I enjoy following our football team.  Always a big fan!
