Principal Wardle's Blog 02/05/2021

 Friday Focus:

Buffalo Grove High School is extremely proud to announce that sophomore art student, Audrey Yang has been awarded the very prestigious Scholastic Silver Key Award.  This is Audrey’s second National art award.

The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards are presented by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers. Founded in 1923, the Alliance is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to identify students with exceptional artistic and literary talent and present their remarkable work to the world through the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. The Awards give students opportunities for recognition, exhibition, publication, and scholarships. Students across America entered nearly 320,000 original works in 2020 in 28 different categories of art and writing. Well-known previous Scholastic Art & Writing award recipients include Andy Warhol, Robert Redford, and Amanda Gorman. You can learn more about the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards HERE.

Join the V-Show!

Student Council is hosting its annual Variety Show this Spring! One of the goals of this year's show is to feature talent from across the broad spectrum of cultures and backgrounds at BG. Dance, ventriloquism, magic, comedy, singing, lip synching, weird pet tricks... (almost) all talents are welcome. We will be doing a hybrid performance, so students will have an opportunity to perform live or create a video performance from home with our assistance.

If you're interested in performing (virtually), please join the V-Show Schoology group with this code: Q7VK-7ZB6-CNWWT for more information.

D214 develops Multimedia Communications Pathway for a Multimedia World

The Daily Herald, February 3, 2021

"Journalism is not going away; it's evolving. But so many districts have gotten rid of media or journalism programs," said Buffalo Grove English and Multimedia teacher Stefanie McCleish, who was drawn to D214 in part because of the District's commitment to updating its teaching of multimedia communications.

Where District 214 students once progressed through a sequence of journalism or broadcast courses, they now begin with foundational writing skills paired with an introduction to multimedia communication and then advance to working with all contemporary communication platforms. Read Story
