Congratulations to the Chess Team on going 5-2 and placing 23rd in State. Led by Sanjay Manoj on Board One scoring a perfect 7-0, along with Lucas Pasdo 7-0 on Board Three. This is only the second time in school history that Board One goes undefeated! 6 wins and 1 draw led the team to a 5-2 record and 23rd place overall. Kevin Dumiter on Board Four went 6-1 to play lights out.
Congratulations to Scholastic Bowl player Rohan Ganeshan on being named the top individual player out of 140 players in the varsity Scholastic Bowl tournament last weekend with 98.86 points per game!

Staff Spotlight
What is your name? Amy Zaba
What department do you teach in/ How long have you been teaching at BG? This is my 7th year teaching at BG in the CTE Department.
Where did you go to high school? I went to Conant High School, home of the Cougars.
What part of teaching do you find the most rewarding? My absolute favorite part of teaching is watching students apply what they have learned to make and do amazing things.
What new thing have you learned this year teaching remotely? Students adapt easily. Remote learning has become a new norm this year and students have adapted well.
What are you currently reading, and/ or do you have a favorite author or podcast? One of my favorite podcasts to listen to is eMarketer. They talk about current trends and studies in marketing and I can relate a lot of what I learn to the curriculum for my Sports and Entertainment Marketing students.
What activities or clubs do you coach/ sponsor? I am a co-sponsor for DECA, a professional business club. I am also the sponsor for our coding club here at BG.
What is something unique about you? I have been in grad school on and off since I graduated college. I will finish my last class this summer.
BGPA Scholarship Application Now Available
The Buffalo Grove High School Parent Association (“BGPA”) and donor Mrs. Jackie Sell are pleased to award scholarships to recognize the achievement of our students. The winners will be selected based on school and community involvement, leadership, motivation, and academics, as well as a compelling personal essay. All graduating BGHS Class of 2021 seniors are eligible for this scholarship. Additionally, scholarship Applicants must plan to attend a post-secondary or technical school as a full-time or part-time student and must meet District 214’s requirements to participate in and to be awarded a diploma at commencement in 2021. The Scholarship is an outright gift and will be announced and disbursed at the Principal’s Awards Assembly on May 6, 2021.

All applications will be reviewed with complete anonymity. The completed application (stapled with required attachments and signatures) must be received in the BGHS College/Career Center by the end of school on Wednesday, March 31, 2021. All decisions made by BGPA will be final. Any application not submitted with all attachments or unsigned by the end of school on March 31, 2021, will be rejected.

Chicago Cubs Announce 2021 Minor League Managers, Coaching Staffs, and Coordinators

Steven Pollakov starts his second season as assistant coordinator, Dominican hitting analytics. He served as a hitting apprentice in the Houston Astros farm system in 2019, integrating technology and biometrics into hitting programs. In 2018, he served as catching coordinator in the Boston Red Sox Dominican Republic Academy. Signed as an undrafted free agent in 2016 by the Chicago White Sox, Pollakov is a graduate of Buffalo Grove High School in Illinois. Read Story
