National Merit Semifinalists Announced
We are pleased to announce that six Buffalo Grove High School students have been named Semifinalists in the 2022 National Merit Scholarship Program. The Semifinalists of Buffalo Grove High School are seniors Vishnuh Bala, Celia Cortopassi, Irina Kryukov, Kevin Rabinak, Spencer Sadler, and Harmony Sosa.
About 16,000 Semifinalists throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $30 million that will be offered next spring. To be considered for a Merit Scholarship® award, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of the competition. About 95 percent of the Semifinalists are expected to attain Finalist standing, and approximately half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar® title.

What part of working at BG do you find the most rewarding? Being able to make students smile :)
What are you currently reading, and/ or do you have a favorite author or podcast? The last book I read was I'm Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter. I love biographies, short stories, and romance.
What is something unique about you? I was raised in a Mexican household with 6 siblings. I grew up following cultural traditions and I am raising my two kids following those traditions. I want them to be proud of who they are and where they come from, just like I am!
What activities or clubs do you coach/ sponsor? What activities at BG do you follow? Working at a school is a whole new world for me, I worked in the medical field for 22 years. Everyday is a new exciting experience for me. I am super excited being part of BGHS, and excited to learn and be part of BG's activities where I can help out and be part of.

BGHS will be hosting college and military reps both in person and virtually. All rep visits, even the virtual visits, will be held in the College and Career Center (room G153). Please pick up a pass in the College and Career Center to attend any of these rep. visits

Directions 2021 College and Career Fair
September 28, 2021 6:00 pm | Virtual Platform
The virtual fair showcases post-secondary options for students with special needs hosted by High School District 214, Township High School District 211, Barrington Unit School District 220, Harper College, and St. Viator High School. Along with short video clips and resources from representatives of colleges and post-secondary institutions introducing and discussing their programs, there will be a live panel of select program representatives answering questions.

Parent Involvement
BGHS parents have the opportunity to join several groups that support our students. The Bison Boosters support the athletics program, the Buffalo Grove Instrumental Association and Friends of the Orchestra support the band and orchestra programs, the Buffalo Grove Choral Guild supports our choir programs, and the Buffalo Grove Parent Association supports the school's educational programs. Each group has its own set of policies, membership responsibilities, and meeting schedules. Please consider supporting these parent groups. Most donations will flow through the District 214Foundation, a 501(c)3 organization, and you will be sent an automatic receipt and thank-you. Your support is significant, and provides tangible opportunities for our students in athletics, the fine and performing arts and academics.
