Friday Focus:
Orchesis to Perform at Giordano Dance Chicago Choreography Project
The Buffalo Grove High School Orchesis will be a part of the Giordano Dance Chicago Choreography Project at Barrington High School tomorrow, January 15, 2022, at 7:00 pm. There are ten High Schools/Dance Studios from the area participating in the show. The dancers auditioned for the Choreographer and Giordano Company member, Ashley Downs, in October. Fourteen dancers were selected by Ashley to be a part of this dance. Dancers performing include Lucia Caringella, Kyla Carrison, Emma Clark, Giuliana Distaola, Isabella Escalante, Jada Gross, Amanda Kim, Ellen Lee, Kyana Luyando, Giana Mele, Amanda Merret, Mia Passannante, Anna Royz and Hannah Shultz. General admission tickets are $15.00 and will be available at the door.

What is your name? Dee Baum
What department do you teach in/ How long have you been teaching at BG? I started at BG at the start of this school year as a first-time special education teacher in English. Before this year, I taught exclusively in English so special education is completely new to me this year.
Where did you go to high school? I attended Maine East High School in Park Ridge.
What part of teaching do you find the most rewarding? It's most rewarding being a small part of a student's journey in education. The small conversations that happen on a daily basis are the connections that I value the most.
What new thing have you learned this year as a teacher? How to write an IEP. I've read them countless times and utilized them throughout my career but never wrote them. I can proudly say this is part of my skill set now.
What are you currently reading, and/ or do you have a favorite author or podcast? I am reading Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn.
What activities or clubs do you coach/ sponsor? I am co-sponsoring Film Club at this time and am looking to do more activities.
What is something unique about you? Since I started to travel on my own, I've made it a point to go to a baseball game in every city I visited. I even got to go to the old Yankee Stadium when they were playing the Red Sox! (My husband is super jealous of that one)
