Staff Spotlight

What department do you teach in/ How long have you been teaching at BG? I teach in the Art Department (CTE, Art, PE). This is my first year teaching at BG, but my fourth year teaching in general.

Where did you go to high school? Buffalo Grove High School, yay!

What part of teaching do you find the most rewarding? The most rewarding part of teaching is when my students gain the confidence to trust their artistic abilities and ideas.

What new thing have you learned this year as a teacher? This year I learned the importance of balance, in all aspects of life. I hope my students will find balance in their lives as well.

What are you currently reading, and/ or do you have a favorite author or podcast?  I am currently reading books about Art Therapy for graduate school. One of the books is Craft in Art Therapy edited by Lauren Leone. I am enjoying learning about Art Therapy and bringing ideas into my classroom. I don’t listen to many podcasts, but definitely check out my sister’s podcast, Latinx On The Rise. It’s focused on highlighting individuals in the Latinx community.

What activities or clubs do you coach/ sponsor? I am part of the Theater Jury here at BG and it is so fun! I don’t currently sponsor a club/activity at BG, but I’d love to in the future. I also teach at PHS, and I sponsor the Yoga Club there.

What is something unique about you? I teach hot yoga and yoga sculpt at CorePower Yoga in Oak Park.
