D214 African American Teen Empowerment Summit

On May 12, area students traveled to Harper College for the opportunity to participate in the 7th annual African American Teen Empowerment Summit. Organized by District 214's African American Leadership Team, the theme of this year’s event, “Young, Gifted and Black,” was a homage to young Black creatives, Young, Gifted and Black. All of the Summit’s guest speakers were aged 35 and under, and have career pathways and life experiences that are invaluable to Black culture. Re-designing space; designing a career

The Daily Herald, May 16, 2022

The most effective learning opportunities often incorporate problem-solving that students will face in their careers, which is what made this year's design challenge so valuable for Design 214 students. Students from all six comprehensive high schools are enrolled in Design 214, taught by Jeff Bott, a Buffalo Grove division head, and Patrick McGing, a Project Lead the Way instructor, as part of the Architectural and Engineering career pathway. Bott explains that the class evolved from students seeking a deeper dive into architecture and design than previous course iterations offered.
