Friday Focus: District 214 Students Create Mural with Award Winning Artist Hector Duarte

During remote learning last year in Spring 2021, 60 students throughout District 214 created a mural working with award winning Mexican muralist and Pilsen artist Hector Duarte. Duarte spent several months working with D214 artists via Zoom guiding students to develop their own themes of Duality, Social Justice and Identity. The results are 6 unique murals sharing a cohesive theme. Each of the schools -- Hersey, Prospect, Elk Grove, Buffalo Grove, Wheeling and Rolling Meadows --  had 10 artists that produced a part of the mural. We are proud to share the images of all 6 alongside the original from our own artists: Leslie Sandoval, Natalie Druy, Joshua Ramirez, Alan Tepango, Maya Kaspryzk, Bernice Zielinski, Audrey Yang (2 works)

Lennon Strauss, and Theodora Pavlou (student teacher). The work is on display in the rotunda by the art room.

Baseball: Mac's walk-off hit gives Buffalo Grove MSL title over Barrington

The Daily Herald, May 21, 2022

Buffalo Grove's Alex Beihoffer knew before anyone else. "I knew Brody (Mac) would be the one," said Beihoffer, who was standing on third base in the bottom of the seventh inning representing the game-winning run. "I was one hundred percent confident in Brody. He has never stepped up before. But this time was his time. And he picked a big time to step up and I am so proud of him." Beihoffer's premonition was prolific. Mac delivered a sharp single past a drawn in infield to lift Buffalo Grove past Barrington 3-2 in the Mid Suburban League baseball championship game in Buffalo Grove. Read Story
