Friday Focus:

Everyday is Black History Celebration

Friday, February 24th

Buffalo Grove High School is proud to present the “Everyday is Black History” Celebration on Friday, February 24, 2023. All Township High School District 214 Ebony Clubs and Black Student Unions will participate in this celebration to honor African American history and their continued legacy. African Americans continue to make a positive and significant impact everyday.

Award winning educator and activist Ernest Crim III will serve as the keynote speaker. A southside native and University of Illinois alum, Mr. Crim is the author of the book Black History Saved My Life and the new children's book ABCs of Affirming Black Children. Mr. Crim is a self proclaimed Black History Advocate striving for equity and justice as a speaker, cultural consultant and sociopolitical commentator.

The program will also feature Chicago native and acclaimed poet, Moe-Mentum. Moe-mentum found his life’s purpose using his gift of poetry to, “inspire, encourage and enlighten people from all walks of life.” Moe-mentum is impassioned to achieve his life’s goal to “touch the lives of as many children as possible so that they will know that it is ok to follow your heart and your dreams instead of following people who may lead you astray.”

Phil da Homie will round out the program, sharing his inspiring journey from backyard chef to food truck entrepreneur to owner of Phlavz, a catering and dine-in restaurant on the famed Maxwell Street in Chicago. Lift Every Voice, The Black National Anthem, will be sung by BG's A Cappella Choir.

Buffalo Grove cheer squad soars to 4th state title

The Daily Herald, February 9, 2023

Credit the coaching. Credit the dedication and skill of team members who have cheered competitively since childhood. Credit the "newbies" who blended into the team and tapped into potential they didn't know existed. It all adds up to Buffalo Grove High School's coed cheerleading team earning a state title - the school's fourth in 10 years - at the Illinois High School Association finals in Bloomington on Saturday. All four have come under the guidance of head coach Jeffrey Siegal, who, as the season began, wasn't sure what to expect from this year's team. Read Story

Ranked third in the nation, the BGHS team went 8-0 to clinch the Mid-Suburban League East title in January for the fifth straight year. That comes after a string of exceptional early season performances, including winning the IHSSBCA Kickoff Tournament in November and finishing a close second to archrival Barrington High School at the prestigious Reinstein Varsity Tournament in late December. Junior Rohan Ganeshan was the Reinstein tournament's top individual scorer. Read Story
