Friday Focus:  Celebrity Chef Jaime Laurita Visits ProStart
On Thursday, we were fortunate to have chef-to-the-stars Jaime Laurita and sous chef Duncan Perillat from France visiting our ProStart classes.  Jaime and Duncan led a workshop for ProStart students discussing how food and travel matter, and giving a hands-on, interactive cooking demonstration with students for preparing both savory and sweet crepes.

Chef Jaime Laurita has toured the world with stars such as Madonna, Sting and Red Hot Chili Peppers.  He has been featured on the Oprah show and has co-authored a cookbook with singer Sarah McLachlan. This past fall he co-hosted  the TLC show "Make this Place Your Home" with General Hospital star Jackie Zeman and has designed the current space for Viking Ranges in the Chicago Merchandise Mart.

Staff Spotlight

1. What is your name? Jennifer Zacharski

2. What department have you/do you work in?  I work in student services as a school psychologist.

3. How long have you been working at BG?  This is my twentieth year at Buffalo Grove High School

4. Where did you go to high school?  Lake Zurich High School

5. What part of working at BG do you find the most rewarding? The most rewarding part of my work is making connections with students and helping them to build skills to make meaningful connections to one another that extend beyond high school.  Technology has changed how we make these connections over time. Helping students to navigate these changes and understand the limits and benefits of social media is challenging but also rewarding.

6. What is something unique about you?  I practice yoga several times a week as part of my self-care routine.   This practice allows me to de-stress, recharge and be emotionally available to my students, colleagues, friends, and family.

7. What activities or clubs do you coach/ sponsor?  I currently do not coach or sponsor any activities.
